Why do so many complain about the mix between Metal and Rap? It sounds awesome and why can´t Metal bands use rap in their songs? Metal has so many genres and so many different bands. The band Hed P.E. use metal and rap for their music. The Nu-Metal band Linkin Park do it too. Their are more bands like them who already did that, so what's the fu***** problem?

Sort of agree, and it is only 1 song out of a cornucopia of brilliant music by WT. Other bands like Linkin Park seem to fit (c)rap more easily… imho most rap is just childish attitude with stupid gestures and really boring music coupled with a serious lack of talent and yes, I have seen loads of it to try to embrace it - no way

Rap is a lot more versatile than people give it credit for.
@LyrikalMaestro4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesbuchanan4414 it is and this isn't the first piece that rap and some other genre collabed either, what gets me is why this song did not hit top charts back in 2014. I was born in 1992 and WT debuted when I was 4 in 1996 which kinda upsets me because I never heard of them much less I just came across WT and Amaranthe back in 2015-2016 from youtube recommending them from one of Dead By April's songs one random day on the way to work. All in all, this is what good music should be strong lyrics+ fluid melody to result a masterful experience anyone can relate to or resonate to and I have a philosophical- ish belief I made up for music as a whole. Then again music was my very first inspiration at 5 years old and just recently a year ago I was reminded what my original inspiration was at a very young age and now I'm working hard endlessly to practice everything I can while polishing off the rusts I knew about music growing up.

And We Run, along with Paradise, are the best songs on the album. I don't get why people say that WT became a pop rock band, just because they experimented with different genres. Metal and rap are completely different music genres and WT with Xzibit achieved to combine them perfectly in a very meaningful song.
@davidmatos771610 жыл бұрын
People say that because of how the songs are written overall, not because they experimented with other genres. Most if not all Within Temptation songs nowadays are "radio friendly" (maybe the gutural part in Silver Moonlight isn't), with a predictable structure, easy to listen and catchy choruses. They're still Metal, but more commercial. Anyway, I find this latest album great. But if you want to listen to a good Symphonic Metal album which doesn't sound so "pop", try the latest effort from Delain and you'll see the difference. Personally, I find them equally good.
@Snus8310 жыл бұрын
David Matos Yes, The Human Contradiction is amazing. Lucidity was quite good, and Delain is better with each album. Epica's The Quantum Enigma is also a fine sympho-metal ablum. I cannot say WT''s music is pop, but the mixing on Hydra is definitely poppish. Soft/quiet guitars, almost non-existent bass, prominent keyboards and, of course, sound dynamic range is quite small.
@davidmatos771610 жыл бұрын
Snus I have to disagree with the "Delain is better with each album" part. Lucidity was a great debut, April Rain was a good follow up and The Human Contradiction is their best for me, but in the middle we have We Are The Others which was their weakest effort to date.
@Snus8310 жыл бұрын
David Matos I actually liked We are the Others and Interlude, but I agree that "Delain is better with each album" is a questionable statement. Anyway, here we are, discussing Delain's albums in WT thread. Which makes me wonder how important Martijn Westerholt was to the band.
@sonicnator10 жыл бұрын
David Matos I would argue that a lot of Within Temptation's work was like that(excluding Enter). Since Mother Earth, they have made music that suits the genre excellently while still making it very accessible to everyone. Songs like Ice Queen, Never Ending Story, and Stand My Ground are good examples of this. Nothing has really changed much aside from their desire for branching out.

darkservantofheaven Yeah, some people in the metal community are super close minded and some are just downright racist. It's too bad.
@darkservantofheaven9 жыл бұрын
DarthScorpio11 tell me about it. I had a roomate for a time who was very close minded about it. He was a metal head and he would get angry at the presence of rap anywhere, especially when they act in a movie. He got mad when he saw Tupac Shakur in a movie. when I explaiend to him that before pac was a rapper, he was a student at a performance art school and had taken classical acting courses as well as 3 musical instruments (bass, guitar and piano). "well fuck you! Im a metalhead" with extreme bias. I even said that there are likely performers in the metal and Rock genre who enjoy some rap, he called them sell outs. and the fucked up thing about it is...my roomate was black. I am gonna sound bias, but I swear rap gets shitted on the most by detracters. I know poeple that say "Rap degrades women" I am pretty sure that there are some rock or metal songs that do as well....I mean alot of rock songs from the 1980s showed strippers just as much as a rap video from the 1990s. "rap is full of violent and evil content..." and black metal/death metal doesnt?" "rap is not music because they do not actually sing...." So the growling and shreking in death metal qualifies as singing? and dont get me wrong, I like some metal and allot of rock, but come on to say one genre is a more legit source of entertaintment music is just plain ignorant. oh and heres my favorite one from the detracters, I hear this one from teenage boys mosty... "rap doesnt have the guitar and what kind of music doesnt include the guitar?"....um, classical, opera, jazz, swing, big band? I'm sure that not all metal fans are racist (well the ones into National Socialist Black Metal certainly are...) but I do think that there is a bit of an us vs them mentality...when one genre becomes more prominent in the media, the fans really have to over compensate by closing the doors and being angry about it. on the other end of the spectrum. where you have metalhead who hate and dispise rap/R&B...your average fan of Rap or R&B is unaware of most metal bands. In my experience, once introduced they start to like it. Its hard to introduce a quality rap song or group or artist to a your average metal head. but this all based on my personal experience.

"When he found out, he couldnt imagine, how Rap and Metal should worked out together" Xzibit has a song called Napalm, from 2012, that sounds like some 90s sludge metal with rap vocals. He clearly knows that metal and rap work together.

I think it's very risky to incorporate symphonic metal and rap the way they did, and while I'm not a fan of Xzibit, his addition ended up working out really well and really made the song feel great. The payoff may not be universal, but I feel it was brave for them to do it, and I like the song. I am always a fan of artists mixing genres together and see how the sounds mesh.

Well, I think this song is fantastic. I honestly think that assholes like Kanye West and Flo Rida have completely missed the point of rap. Rap was originally created as a form of expression against the injustices and hard times of the black community. Rap is supposed to have strong messages, not talk about hoes and money. Also, a true musician respects every genre of music. Just because Within Temptation worked with a rapper it doesn't mean they turned to crap, it means they're mature enough to look beyond from what they know and went out of their comfort zone. I admire that from them. They're not the only ones either. A lot of rock and metal artists have done it, including Paul McCartney from The Beatles. If you guys think that being a metalhead means dissing everything else and being elitists about your genre, then you're just as bad as Kanye.

"And We Run" (feat. Xzibit) It burns into your heart The darkness that you fear You were never free And you never realized And love is a word You never heard Your heart ain't cold, 'cause it burns A desire to leave the mire Take your breath 'Till nothing's left Scars of life Upon your chest And I know Wherever it goes [Chorus:] And we run With a lonely heart And we run, for this killing love And we run, 'till the heavens above Yeah we run Running in the dark And we run, 'till we fall apart And we run, 'till the heavens above Don't blink, you'll miss it Lift up your head We gotta get gone Yeah, we outta here! Don't blink, you'll miss it Lift up your head Too late, we gone Yeah, we outta here! And we run With a lonely heart And we run For this killing love And we long for a heavenly heart I'm a break these chains Ran thru the rain Never look back, never quit Work thru the pain This blood in my veins runs cold When I think it'll never be the same But I never lose hope This is MY time now! No time for tears Celebrate Put it in the air right now! Never back down You could never wear my crown Cause it weighs too much And I crush Every muthafuckin thing I touch This is love I've never loved so much! Get involved Make the world stand up! Give my life Before I ever give up "Name in lights" you lost all my trust Now it's time to face all of us Get in line cause they callin' us And it feels so marvelous Just take my hand and RUN! [Chorus:] And we run With a lonely heart And we run, for this killing love And we run, 'till the heavens above Yeah we run Running in the dark And we run, 'till we fall apart And we run, 'till the heavens above Yeah! We outta here! Don't blink, you'll miss it Lift up your head We gotta get gone Yeah, we outta here! Don't blink, you'll miss it Lift up your head Too late, we gone Yeah, we outta here! And we run With a lonely heart And we run For this killing love And we long for a heavenly heart Don't blink, you'll miss it Lift up your head We gotta get gone Yeah, we outta here!
