They have many great songs to chose from and practically any song will do but my favorite song of them is "Say my name". The song was never released on any of the studio albums but as a bonus track on the single release of the song called "Angels" . The song is about her (Sharon den Adel) grandmother suffering from Alzheimers just like you picked up, and her desperate attempts to try to connect with her one more time. Her delivery is spot on except for slight emotional tremor in her voice that makes it all the more beautiful. The audience is also fully aware of the uniqueness of this song being performed because it so quiet that you would have been able to hear pin drop.Quiet an achievement in a sold-out arena of 20.000 people. I have seen this woman perform four times in concert and countless live registration online she is usually very relaxed and cheerful during her concerts. During this concert she starts out that way but if you watch her carefully you can see her tense up the closer she get to this song and relaxes again after the song has been done.

This song is so so personal to me. I only found out about it a few weeks ago and have barely had the courage to listen to it more than a few times. My grandma has Alzheimer’s just like Sharon’s did, and while things aren’t at that point yet, it’s terrifying to know that it’s coming sooner than later. On the other hand, hearing this song is one of the first things that’s really helped me process what’s coming and how I feel about it. I hope that some day I’ll be able to meet Sharon and tell her how much it means to me that she chose to be open about her pain and write this song.

Very sad topic indeed, and the sadness in Sharons voice is heartbreaking. Beautiful but very sad song. Do you know that first damage in brain occur about 30 to 40 years before first symptoms? I learned about it lately and it's scares me. We can only try to prevent alzheimer but still don't know how to cure it.

It's agonizing to see your loved ones memories diminishing. Both my Grandmother and my Mother passed from Alzheimer's. So painful for all of us.They call this "The Long Goodbye" and it's Hell on Earth.

It's about Alzheimer's. It will tear your family apart. I'm glad you could recognize it at first. This could also be substituted for dementia too since it's very similar but this specific song is about her grandmother who had Alzheimer's

I lost my dad in June this year to dementia, provoked by an accident. This song became my personal anthem the days I couldn't bare the fact he didn't recognize I was his son. Listening to this again brings me back to those days and it really hurts. Cheers, and keep it rockin' man lml

This one always gets me. You can tell this one is personal to her in both her face and voice, and the lyrics and buildup only add to the emotions. And 100% agree, the very thought of Alzheimer's scares me to death

Not just that they don't remember/recognize you. Its so cruel to the family. If someone is dead you can heal and move on. They are at peace and not needing your help. The wound will heal with time. But when they are sick they are still there...its a gut punch over and over again. A wound you won't allow yourself to heal. You still need to be there for them cause you love them and are loyal to them but its torture. Its such a cruel fate to those that love them. My grandmother who was a loving lively chatterbox got a stroke and became a vegetable for years before she died. My grandpa in his 90s visited her everyday. They were called the lovebirds of the nursing home and they are what love should be to me. Grandpa visited his girl everyday risking his own health to do so to talk to a woman that might not know he is even there. Cause thats what true love is....he loved his wife not expecting anything in return not even an acknowledgement of his presence...simply cause he loved her and wanted to be with her. Lifegoals: find a partner who loves you like that. And be the kind of person who inspires that kind of love and devotion in others.

Who else had this same named song? Chorus was simply 'say my name, say my name' unfortunately can't remember anything else about it. Sharon sure look beautiful in this song, and dress she wears. Ooof, Dutch women are getting to me slowly. I need to visit Germany, Nederlands and Italy or France once world opens up again. Always wanted to see these kind of bands in bigger concerts and stages. WT, Epica & NW especially always have amazing set list's and stages. And FOH does good work on every band.

I believe you are thinking of the song with the same title from Destiny's Child! And I can confirm, Within Temptation is something else live. Saw them yesterday for the first time in 8 years, and they did not disappoint :D

Alzheimer is in the beginning also bad for the person itself too. The transition period between remembering who you are and everyone around you and then experiencing that you are forgetting things, where you are, who the people around you are and forgetting what makes you, you, before you finally don't remember anything at all, only excistst. That transition period is scary. I remember that from a close neighbour. She always wanted to go home ( the house where she used to live as a child), So when I brought her back home where she was actually living, she always panicked; saying; this isn't my home and they stole my things. Yes, you are right about the families etc. It is hard on them as well.
