It's always interesting to think about the idea of your parent's 'hard work going to waste if you chose a creative career' because to me it seems like the ultimate success. This is really nerdy but if you look up Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, you can see that creative activities are at the very top in the 'self-actualization' section. Which would mean (at least to me) that you had a super stable and loving upbringing. Which is success in its own way I guess :-)

recently i’ve been taking stock of my youtube subscriptions, just being mindful of who i’m watching and what sort of value/joy/knowledge they provide to me. just to ensure that i’m actively consuming media that’s good for me/my improvement. linh was one of the few youtubers that ticked off ALL categories i made- Energy Booster (i can watch her in the mornings to accompany my daily chores), Relaxation (i watch her during wind down time at night), Best Self (watching ppl be productive motivates me to be productive at work; try new things; be actively kind etc), AND Romanticize/Inspirational (creators who help me fight depression by encouraging me to frame my own life as a Main Character, to put a Ghibli lens on my day to day). Look, I'm "old" (In my 20's) and in France we have a similar system. I went and did science because that's what my parents wanted. I was miserable. Your parents are right to say that graphic design is a bit unstable. This is why you need to create opportunities early. Try to fnd graphic designers who can guide you, learn how to code, do internships. Basicallyfollow your passions but be smart about it. Don't chill in design school thinking work is gonna just fall on your lap after high school.
