I haven't watched this video yet, but as a former Marine Administration Clerk, I know that Garrison's SGLI Life insurance would only go to whomever he designated should receive it on his military paperwork. No doubt, he would have filled out these forms to indicate that he only wanted Janelle to receive these benefits, to be paid in the event of his death. This is completely cut and dry. No wiggle room here.

I’ve been the executor for my husband’s grandfather’s estate. It’s a long process. Your job is basically paying off all bills, and making sure taxes and other things are settled. You often sell property and divide the estate between the remaining family. It takes years. My hubby’s grandpa died in 2016 and we still were receiving payments in 2024 to disburse to family. Janelle has my greatest sympathy. It’s a lot of work to be executor

She was a mentally disabled adult who didn’t have much so hers was easier to deal with. It’s when they own a business, a condo, vehicles, and international stocks and bonds it takes a lot of time to clean up. My advice - if you have a child or children you want to leave stuff to, make them co-owners of your home, bank accounts, etc…. Then when you die they are already co-owners with you and you don’t have as many hassles

As a member of the military, I believe that Garrison would have had a will. Everyone I know ever in the Military had to have one. You have to go through Probate Court in SC if the estate is more than a certain dollar amount. Life insurance is separate and is not included in probate.

Probate court is not that difficult. They don’t sway from what the deceased wanted. If his mom was the person on his life insurance or any other paperwork he signed while being in the National Guard would be what the judge would rule in favor of.

Fighting over a deceased person's estate has broken up many family relationships. A simple trust before death avoids probate. The house would have had to been titled as owned by the trust. A parent could list children and parent as owners of the trust. Then upon death of parent, the trust belongs to the trustees (the other people listed on the trust.)

Garrison died intestate - probate was a must. Absentee father, not on birth certificate, abandonment of his child... yah he wasn't going to be awarded the LOA to execute the estate. I am so glad that Janelle handled matters efficiently and most likely with a lawyer rather than just leaning on non licensed people. Good for her, this is bittersweet for her and she is still in the early stages of her grief process, I wish her and the kids peace. Kody needs to get a Job and stop trying to audition with his wife in these recent gross sisterwives scenes to get a spin off, no one is interested in their deceitful monogamy agenda.

The Kodster is on all of Janelle's kids birth certificates. He's not on any of Christine's kids.

Even if there is no money, Janelle would never be responsible to pay his debts with her own money. So she wouldn't be under water. The house would just get foreclosed and it wouldn't affect Janelle at all.

Kody is the "Laziest Gal in Town". If he had his way, Janelle would have done all the WORK to disposition Garrison's estate while he, Kody, sat back and collected all the money. It's so sad. Seemingly, Garrison was so proud of himself for buying the house and starting his career. As a viewer, I was proud of him too.

I feel so bad for Janelle. First her son dies, then she has to battle “play-dough” for brains over who will be executor. He didn’t care about Garrison enough to patch things up, he has no right to play boss man with Garrison’s money. Serves him right, and my heart goes out to Janelle. Court hearings when she should be grieving and taking care of business. Shame on him.

It sounds to me like Kody didn't didn't even try to be named executor of Garrison's estate. If Janelle was the beneficiary of his life insurance policy, that would have been enough for the court to name her the executor. That closed the door to Kody getting his hands on any part of Garrison's estate. From watching your clips, the show is definitely different. I wonder if the ratings have dropped at all. TLC seems to think it can put out any trash content they want to, and they will still get the ratings?

Kody NEVER disappoints. His true colors and selfishness show more and more everyday. I can’t even imagine the hell Garrison was in. Kody is a poor excuse for a father and human being. All Garrison needed from Kody was Kody to be a dad and love him unconditionally (like all parents should) but Kody true to form never does anything wrong. My heart breaks for Janelle and all the family members who loved Garrison.

I cannot ever imagine talking to my husband , even if we were separated , about the kids we had ,referring to them as “ my kids” . Janelle said to Kody “ what to do about MY boys” …not Our boys . That there screams the reality of their relationship, which was totally devoid of his involvement. Heartbreaking .

I remember that scene when Kody wanted to go for a beer with his son. It made me shudder. He's not winning any fans with his words and actions. I wish he was more attentive and caring. If so, Garrison might still be with us. He might have felt strong enough to seek help. But he was being rejected by his Dad. The whole thing is super heartbreaking. My heart aches for Janelle.
