All their children have been successful , except for Garrison doing what he did . He was drunk and maybe didn’t know what he was doing . It all goes back to Kody being a flake of a father . The show “ Sister Wives “ was very successful at showing the world how horrible the fathers can be . Having so many children , ignoring their needs , playing favorites , being an absent father , and throwing children out on the street .

I only have a brother. Both parents died young. He tells me daily how stupid and worthless I am because I am now disabled. I worked and have been on my own all my life, to the point of skipping marriage and having kids. Now I am alone, unable to work, deal with medication resistant bipolar depression and panic attacks and I can’t put into words how lonely I am and how much his name calling and insults hurt to my core. Even though I had a better job than he ever has, I am stupid with no common sense and worthless now that I can’t work, in his eyes. And he is all I have and I am kind to him. I am no longer social and honestly have no idea why I am still here. I can’t bring myself to ban him from my life. It’s sad. I admire ppl who can do that.

You notice all the children listed are those of Janelle's? Her children definitely are much more grounded and responsible. I would say Janelle is a big part of why that is. We all know she is more grounded herself and finances are extremely important to her. When I was a kid we moved multiple times a year - every year. Changed schools and had trouble paying bills and keeping food in the house. I was determined that when I grew up that was not happening to my kids. We have owned our home for 28 years. Our daughter only lived in 2 houses her entire time growing up, in the same town. She finished high school with the same kids she started kindergarten with. Our bills are paid and we have food in our pantry. Thankfully my husband understood my NEED to grow roots and a strong family. Kids know and remember way more than they are given credit for.

I like that she called out Kody's "poor mans mindset" and recognized importance of thinking abt tomorrow. The greatest difference between an ignorant and educated mindset, is ability to postpone reward and plan for the future. Work today. Rest tomorrow. Kody was clearly in control of the money incoming from the show and he never lived in the home full time or privided for any of his kids. She was practically a single mom at the mercy of kody paying her mortgage. If he got mad an decided not to pay it she would have provavly ended up homeless because she didn’t have control of the money. She had no income, i think that qualifies her children for health insurance assistance. Would you rather her kids not had insurance?

That's it right there! The kids being well adjusted is despite their upbringing. They found their way on their own once they could get out of there. This just solidifies how horrific these environments are on children and their critical development. This is so unfair. None of the kids ever asked for this mess nor have any of them chosen this atrocity of a "marriage" lifestyle. I will always find All of the adults irresponsible and immature. They involved their children in adult matters and they forced them to grow up in a cult. That's not good parenting. It's selfish as hell. Wish all the very best for all of the kids. They are great.

Unfortunately, except for Janelle, they were raised in this environment and it’s all they knew. Janelle was mainstream LDS so she had one foot in this world. Indoctrination is a powerful things. This was simply what they knew.

@@MissAmy2913 I get it, the adults for sure. But the kids are well adjusted for the most part because of their own individual parting from the family dynamic and soul searching. Im proud of them. Thing is, cult or not, as responsible parents, you Never Ever involve your child in your adult matters, and they did that A Lot. Not good. The adults Also, lived inside the cult as Katie has described, and all of their ridiculous rules and could have Also made the decision to remove themselves and adjust to the real world just like all of these great kids did. Katie has talked about A lot of the inside dynamic and culture as she's studied this cult a long time, and it's pretty bad.

Years ago I watched an episode of sisterwives that was all about how the family planned on paying college expenses when their kids got to that age. I must’ve heard the word scholarship about a hundred times during that episode. They were all about getting free secondary education. Now they are all buying million dollar houses. For being supposedly religious this family always cared a bit too much about material wealth. It’s hypocritical.

When you graduate high school your parent’s obligation to your education is complete. You work or go to college, you can live at home and I feed you at close to no cost to you as possible. I will contribute to your transportation and other expenses as I can(while in school) but you are doing the rest. You are required to have a part time job as close to driving as you can. This is how I am raising mine. One moved out, went to work, and married and has not been financially dependent on me since, outside the occasional voluntary help. Just had my first grand. Two graduated nursing school, saved enough to move out and is living in something much nicer than anywhere I’ve lived. He’s saved money since his first job at 16, is invested in retirement at 21, and has an emergency fund. Three is a sophomore in high school and plans to follow his brother’s(murse-male nurse)footsteps.

We’ve seen how Robyn was much more openly unaccepting of giving the kids religious freedom than the rest of the Browns. I wonder if the rebel kids were also the “bullies” Kody has mentioned that Robyn is so offended by and scared of.

Oof, even in Maddie talking about insurance you can tell she hasn't totally learned what normal is. Typically one parent has insurance for the kids through work. The ACA allowed families access to subsidized plans. It isn't typical to sometimes have insurance and sometimes not.

I've worked in Social Services front lines for over 13 years in Utah. If you are unwed but have children in common and you are in the home 51 percent of the time or more overnight you are considered a parent. If you are not in the home overnight 51% or more of the time than you are not. This also means that during Maddie's surgery for her appendix they likely defaulted to medicaid. Which isn't necessarily fraudulent considering what's his bucket wasn't in the home 51 percent or more of the time. His income and assets wouldn't factor in much.

You can be poor and be a good parent. That said, it was fiscally irresponsible to keep having babies when you can't afford to feed the ones you have. I subscribe to this channel with Maddie. I'm surprised at how much we have in common. I'm old enough to be her mother, but I've had to cut ties with family, and my daughter and I have created our own. There are a lot of topics they've covered, and I really appreciate how they discuss things. They don't name people, or turn it into a bashing party, nor pity party. Also, talking with her mother, sometimes having to let her know that something has hurt her. Yet, Mom (Janelle) is learning from she and Caleb. That makes Janelle a great Mom, changing at her age and the things the "cult" had taught her... Maddie's words. She truly loves Hunter as he shows up at every special day, or when someone needs a little help, like being ill, or with Ysabel after her surgery. She calls him "like where's Waldo, where's Hunter. I told my daughter about the channel and she quickly subscribed. There's a lot that could help her as well. 😊❤

I noticed this season Maddie has falling back into old patterns with her mother. Maddie shouldn't have to figure out her mother's finances or coming to terms with everything else Janelle should be dealing with - without leaning on Maddie! She shouldn't have to pickup the piece's of Savannah's life and figure out Kody's rejection of her. Even Christine's daughter's run to North Carolina for some sense of normalcy. I was that daughter/sibling/friend/ etc. On the one hand it's exhausting on the other it fills an emotional hole left from never having a childhood. I think it's a terrible idea for Maddie and her husband to go into business together, buy land and build together. Christine and Janelle are both too needy. Christine found David and he's all about being her rescuer/ knight in shining armor. Janelle is still caught up into the parentification of Maddie and I dare say her husband.

Ya know, in addition to their other delusional manipulative ways. > So, Janelle ALSO had to take care of “her” children’s medical bills! Sick! > I wonder if a blessing-in-disguise of the moms venting to their children contributed to the children’s decisions to not live in plural marriages. > I wonder if Robyn has medical insurance for her kids, and if that was part of Kody “needing” to adopt the kids. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve had health issues since I was 4. I just kept being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases. I had my son, separated from his father and raised him alone. I also worked FT and OT. My father didn’t help and my step mother is toxic. My mommy was deceased. I wanted another child, but the pregnancy, the cost of child care, he went to private school, all the activities plus health issues, I knew this was all I can handle. I wanted to give my son everything he needed and most of what he wanted. His father financially provided but didn’t assist in the child rearing or keep him over night until he was 11. As much as I wanted more, I knew it was irresponsible. When my body finally failed and I needed disability, I had all I could do to care for my son. We made it, he’s 22, I’m doing better thanks to biologicals and I consistently work PT. I’m not perfect but I gave my son the best I had. I was always there for him.
