Only when there was a racial epithet did UpTV finally do the right thing (and rightly so) to remove this show from the airwaves. This show was about a family that belonged to a cult so it should have been cancelled long ago. UpTV didn’t care prior to now because the show’s ratings were good. This is very sad. Also sad that TLC continued to feature members of the Duggar family, who continued to be part of a cult, long after 19 Kids and Counting was taken off the air. Something that’s upsetting to me, is that I grew up with alcoholic drug addicted parents, and when I became a parent I decided to raise them very differently than I was raised. Since I didn’t have good examples growing up, when I became a Christian I would watch the Duggar’s and the Nate’s to try and learn how to be a parent and do things “right”…and now that they are being exposed I feel so lied to and angry because I tired and tried to be like them and failed over and over again. I’m not always soft spoken to my children, I don’t shelter mine as much (my kids watch TV), and I’m super honest and open about anything they want to know about. I have felt so much guilt and shame and like a failure as a parent because I would see the example of these IBLP moms and I couldn’t be like them. I’m praying for healing for their children and for everyone who has been influenced by them, and felt “less than” because of the network’s portrayal.

It sounds like you did a pretty good job raising them, the best that you could of done. Not one parent is perfect here on earth. You could use this for a testimony and help other mothers. Steering them to raise their kid's, how God wants us to Biblically raise them. If a parent wants to know how to raise a child; they can look straight to God's Word, not man. He has written clear instructions on raising children. The book of Proverbs is a great example.

It’s very possible that they don’t know the actual details, without seeing everything in context it’s hard to judge someone when we don’t know everything or what is in their hearts. Considering that they are very active in helping people during disasters in other countries I doubt that they even understand that George wasn’t shot to death since they don’t watch TV. TBH if I hadn’t seen it on KZbin I wouldn’t have a clue what happened since I don’t watch TV especially the news programs to the point where I might have just assumed that he was shot, I don’t think it was said maliciously. I’m not saying that the George Floyd comment was right, but to say that everyone in the room who didn’t react are bad people isn’t right either. I’m sure there were some who simply didn’t know what to think or say in the moment. There were a lot of people there and lot going on, so some people simply didn’t have time to process it right away and maybe say something about it at that time. Please don’t bunch everyone into the same group when it’s unknown for sure what every single person is thinking. That’s a form of discrimination that nobody should subscribe to. I don’t like that George Floyd’s name was brought up in a situation like that and it shouldn’t have been said at all. Hey there! I know some of you LOVE the bates. But the truth has to be revealed. THe BATES are not any better than the Duggars. Gil Bates is a leader of the IBLP. He is actively using his platform to recruit people into the cult. The cult is toxic & abusive. Gil Bates' own sermons are horrific if you listen to them. There is nothing "positive" about what he preaches. Racism is not tolerated here. I would HOPE you would understand how racism should not be tolerated for network television. Gil Bates was part of the board that helped cover up Bill Gothard's sexual abuse and harassment of dozens of women or teens. There's another family facing huge backlash but it's on the other end of the political spectrum. I'm as far from conservative as can be, and I could never stand the Duggars and their sick parenting beliefs, but the show I Am Jazz is a very problematic TLC show, just in a different way than the Duggars. This has nothing to do with transgender rights or transphobia, I support their rights wholeheartedly, but what was done to jazz is unequivocally wrong. I believe her mother is a narcissist with munchausen by proxy who was looking for fame and she used Jazz to get it. Who parades their small child around from one TV show to the next and has them give (clearly rehearsed) answers about her supposed mental illness, gender dysphoria? Parents are responsible to protect their kids. Jeanette exploited Jazz from the age of 2 years old and eventually managed to get the family their very own reality show. The cost is that Jazz never matured and was given dangerous hormones and hormone blockers to prevent puberty and induce female traits. Then the mother managed to get life-altering surgery on her perfectly healthy minor child. Jazz will never experience a true intimate relationship. She sill never have bio children. She has said that she has never experienced the "big O" and now with surgery that removed her natural parts, she never will. TLC should be shut down. They have exploited kids for decades now and all of those kids, including Jazz, should sue them.

Actually, the Bates are very different than the Duggars. The Bates are more down-to-earth and real. In my own opinion from watching the clip many times, is that people made a mountain out of a mole-hill. There is nothing at all racist about the clip or the Bates.

This is me, going to pull the “Bible” study resources off my bookshelves to throw in the trash can because I had NO IDEA what they taught in their workshops and seminars until I started watching your channel and reading comments of survivors. I also am incredibly frustrated that the network was footing the bill for such extravagant travels, weddings, and proposals. I'm Australian and I truly thought that the term "African American" was a respectful way of referring to people because it identifies an ethnicity and current nationality. I honestly though the Bates were somewhat more liberal than the Duggars. Some of the Bates' girls are college educated. They also wear pants. I'm not sure why folks are so surprised that UP canceled BUB. I thought the handwriting was on the wall when UP stopped showing the reruns at 6:00AM EST after the George Floyd comments hit the fan. The toothpaste wasn't going back in the tube, and there was no way to explain it away. I hope it's a lesson learned. And don't worry, folks. I love the Bates Family. Everyone has the right to go to the religion they want. I don’t feel their religion had anything to do with them being cancelled . I will truly miss watching Bringing up Bates and will support their other forms of getting to know them more. Gil & Kelly Jo raised some very respectful kids and are their own family.
