This was very helpful. I'm almost 60, with pretty much no knowledge in computers. The good news is I don't need a job. I just want to do something that looks like fun. I don't really care (within reason) how much it pays. A friend told me to look into Network Chuck and one other guy. Those were way over my head. This seems to be a good starting point. I'll watch it again. I'm going to find some free training first. When the time comes that I know a lil bit, paying for the classes won't be an issue. I just want to make sure I have a little bit of the basic language and terms down before I do.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about cybersecurity or the tech field in general. Realistically, would you still recommend pursuing a career in tech in today’s environment? It seems like the sector is coming down from a high and is already on a downtrend. From what I’m hearing, the market isn’t really looking good for entry-level positions, as employers want mid to high-level employees. Also, considering the impact of AI in the coming years, is a career in tech something I should even consider for the next 5-10 years, or should I explore other options? I appreciate any advice or insights you have to offer!

Consider exploring options like the Google Professional Cyber Security Certification on coursera (if u dont wanna pay the subscription do it on youtube at @Google Career Certificates they upload all the content except assignments or quizez on ) or the Certified in cybersecurity (CC) offered by ISC².

@@ChristopherTravis-v9d The cost of maintaining these certs. ISC2 requires you to pay $125 AMF. If I have sec+ comptia’s annual fee is $50 it’s like paying $175 annually to maintain those. @@ChristopherTravis-v9d Mainly because of the cost of maintain these certifications. For ISC2 you have to pay for $135 AMF, then for Comptia you need to pay for $50. If you're getting into cyber, then I'd go straight for Sec+. It's info heavy but the A+ is2 exams to get fully certified, which means 2x exam fee ($400+), where the Sec+ is already $400, it just doesnt make sense to get the A+ financially unless you're also considering starting a career in IT first then pivoting into cyber. Studying for the Sec+ while in college is perfect timing, and you likely alrdy have technical knowledge on the basics from your degree so you dont need the A+ as a pre-req. Best of luck studying!!
