@Rick O'Shay Then is the movie different from the play?
@richatlarge462
@richatlarge462 4 жыл бұрын
@Rick O'Shay In the original short story, it ends with her saying that she did what she did NOT because she knew he was innocent, but because she knew he was GUILTY. It was just the right ending for a gripping story. But apparently (per Wikipedia) that ending never sat well with Agatha Christie, who decades later added the "second ending" to the play. The movie follows the play.

agreed. this is the plot twist ever seen in any movie. We see plot twists and many surprise us but it is because vital information is hidden from the audience. And then explained and reasoned in the end. But in this movie everything is revealed to the audience absolutely clearly. That is of course the strength of Christie's writing that she surprise her with the ending. I doubt if any reader has ever managed to see her endings coming, but here her double twist just beats the audience. Just as you started to guess the trick the final ending leaves you absolutely surprised. Though I wish Leonard was not murdered. I wish he had left with his girlfriend and left Christine as the witness for prosecution.

the best courtroom drama I have ever seen. Yes it feels dated but unlike most courtroom dramas where emotions are thrown to manipulate the story and non-factual arguments are made this is one where evidence and facts dominate from beginning to the end with surprise after surprise. And a knockout performance from the actor playing the defense lawyer. And a terrific screenplay. "I do not doubt the judgement of jury it is my judgment I having doubts on or something like that.

Apparently Marlene wasn’t put up for consideration for an Oscar because any praise for her performance in this movie would have spoiled the ending. It was important to everyone involved in this film that the ending be kept a secret so that everyone that wanted to see it would be able to enjoy it.

@@12classics39 I think she just believed him that he wasn't a murderer. She looked a bit confused or at least a bit stunned when she heard him talk to Christine about her 'getting him out of this mess' and her being tried for perjury. I think she just took it for granted that he was married to an awful woman and didn't consider that he might actually be a murderer. Not so much bad taste, more just not very smart.

it was a shocking ending but it might have been even better if they just got away with covering up Len's murder. It's a bit ridiculous Len would be so dumb as to betray the person who just perjured herself to clear him like mere minutes after the trial.

Just kidding I didn't see that ending coming when I started watching clips of " Witness for the Prosecution."Also, Marlene gave such a powerful preformous. And, when Marlene used that Cockney accent early in the film was so believable with costume she wore to bring that character to life in this flim.
