Montreux '77 is a 1977 live album by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, accompanied by a trio led by the pianist Tommy Flanagan. This is one of four albums that Ella recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival, being Ella's second Montreux appearance to be released on record.

You sound young. This is how TV looked in the 70s. It wasn't HD but it was still crystal clear like this.

@@Marckymarc71 Oh, no. I'm not young. 61, as it happens, but you'll recall there was a great variance of TV sets then. Also, shows like this were bulk duplicated for export, so they always led to a degree of degradation of the picture quality. Worse still if it was a US recorded special which often had a waxy palor to it.

Ms. Ella Fitzgerald had a splendid velvet voice with an impeccable range that could do a myriad of vocal gymnatics with her thrilling voice. Her scatting was genius!

The wonderful Miss Fitzgerald. Peerless singer, stylist, artist and performer. We lost her too soon, no one has replaced her.

She was 79 years old, blind, had both legs amputated, had survived open heart surgery over a decade before. She entertained audiences for 60 years, made 99 albums, and had received every prestigious honor a recording artist could receive, but "we lost her too soon". Are you serious?

I guess it's a matter of taste, but for me she doesn't deserve to tie Aretha Franklin's shoes. She just sounds as every other person taken off the street.

Well, it’s partly a matter of taste, but it’s also a matter of having an understanding of music. Which I can see you don’t.

I’m a fan of them both and I’m sure the same could be said by others about Ms Franklin. The truth of the matter is vocally there is always someone better than you but it cannot be denied that Ms Fitzgerald set the precedent and standard for Ms Franklin and her peers to follow. Ms Franklin was also a trailblazer and opened the doors for a lot of artists including but not limited to Ms Houston, Mariah Carey, etc. They were musical pioneers who were almost peerless in their day who inspired a lot of artists and still continually does to. No point in comparing them to each other.
