Thank you so much!! 🤗 This was really challenging to film for us! I definitely want to go back and do it again when we get our own kayaks so that we can take our time and be able to make camera adjustments and things like that. Since it was through a tour, it was difficult to keep up and try to film at the same time…especially in complete darkness! The family is getting bigger! It is very exciting! 💛💛 It all started with you and LaShay, though, and I’ll never forget it! ☺️🫶🏽

lol…we did our research beforehand! 😆 The entire trip wasn’t too bad physically other than stressing out about ruining the cameras!

Guess what? I actually want to do this🤣! When I got a notification for this video I was so excited. BUT...I'm scared lol. It's so beautiful but this doesn't seem like a beginners activity (or is it?). You & Noah are so brave! There is a tour that offers a raft but then its inflatable and I'm thinking....just one bite from a gator and we're in the water. I know, that's like my biggest fear when it comes to Florida water. It's on the bucket list but I have to take baby steps lol.

Hi LaShay!!! I feel like beginners could definitely do this! To be honest, Noah and I were probably one of a few kayakers in the group who have kayaked before. They do go over the basics before you get in. Plus, I’m sure it’ll be easier for you if you’re not like me and trying to fill and kayak at the same time! 😆 The clear kayaks were a bit more wobbly, but you do get used to it. We didn’t see any gators while we were out there, though. But, they do tend to swim away if you get close. I think you would be fine!! Definitely keep it on your bucket list for sure! ☺️🫶🏽

I’d be concerned about alligators

Very cool to find videos in my local area doing what I did for a living! I was a kayak guide for a few years and lead thousands of people through the bio in the refuge. Cameras definitely don’t do any justice to the real thing, its just so beautiful in person. A lot of people are too afraid, and yes there are alligators, and during a new moon it is incredibly dark. But during my countless tours, with countless people (about 500 hours of on the water time), I had just a few encounters with alligators. They are very skiddish, and stay away from the kayakers (even if you sneak up on them accidentally and they take off in a hurry while you paddle over the top of them 😂) to the alligators (if they’re even around at the time) , you are one massive gator they do not want to mess with. Families would tell me all of the time how it was better than Disney world. I suggest calling ahead and getting a rating of the bio. It can change drastically overnight, however, it often follows a slower up and down on the scale in that area. Understand that they cannot guarantee nature. It will do what it will do! Some other launch sites may have patchier areas that move with wind and “currents” (there is none, only wind driven movement) If you are sensitive to mosquitoes, this area is brutal for them. Anyway I could go on and on.. nice video!! ❤ love my local area

And great pick with Get up and go kayaking! One of the largest companies out there does not treat their employees fairly, cutting wages to line their own pockets, and sending out massive crowds of people at a time, even breaking their own weather refund policies upsetting guests to hoard wealth. Not naming names… …but glad you went with Get Up. 👍

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment!! I always tell people that it’s not as scary as it seems, but it’s nice to hear from someone who has spent way more time in the water than I have, and did this for a living. I am also happy to hear the Get up is one of the good ones out there! I have done a couple of tours with them, and everyone I have worked with through them have always been so nice! I would have to disappointed to find out if they were not good to their people.

@@ChrissaTravels of course! oh awesome you’ve been out before, have you seen the comb jellies? 🤩

Oh, I’m sorry! I meant us being out on the water in general. ☺️ We get the alligator and “being brave” comments on all of our kayaking videos! I think most people who haven’t kayaking in Florida think it’s really scary, and I always try to tell them that it’s not as scary as it seems. Filming this video was the first time we had ever done the bioluminescence tour! I have never seen the comb jellies! When and where can we see those??

@@ChrissaTravels ohh my bad! 😂 It’s funny how people can be so afraid sometimes but I guess it’s not like I’d go kayak in the Everglade swamps haha The comb jellies are in the same place! They tend to be more common to find in the winter however, but I’ve seen them hold out through the summer before. If you had nets, you may have been able to catch one. I love them! They’re a lot of fun because you can put them in jars of water and watch them swim and glow and hold them in your hands. The Haulover area would usually have two types, Common (AKA walnut comb jelly) and Baroe Ovata, the brown comb jelly. Those I’ve caught almost as big as my hand! They glow just as bright as the dinoflagellate, but if there are a ton of them, it’s like paddling through a pinball machine of lights. Sometimes there were so many, a simple scoop of a net would fill it up with a few pounds of them. Good times. 🥰

How do you think this would be for a "typical" 65yr not very athletic woman?
@ChrissaTravels
@ChrissaTravels 4 ай бұрын
I think you would be fine! They make plenty of stops and most of it is downstream. The most challenging part is the end when you’re kayaking back up stream.
