Family Civil War history is so amazing and so much fun to research. I’m in the process of doing mine now. Mine was at the battle of the Crater and Cold Harbor and more. Still have a lot further to go but it’s been a fun journey so far. He was in the New York 2nd Regiment Mounted Rifles.

I have 7 ancestors who served the Union Army. One was Sgt David Alva Barnett of Company B - 99th PA. He saw action at Gettysburg. He was from our family’s native York County, PA. He would be wounded at Kelly’s Ford VA 11-7-1863. Transported to Douglas Hospital in DC, he would have his left leg amputated and would pass away from blood poisoning 11-26-1863. He is buried in Delta, PA at the United Salem Methodist Church.
