For any first year reading this, I am currently a Master of Science student at Wits and K want to share some knowledge with you. First things first forget about everything you learnt in high school forget your distinctions forget you were the top student forget it all. You are now amongst the best in the country and best believe the standard is higher than anything you've ever encountered, so it important to stay as focused as possible. You will fail, I know that sounds abrupt but its the truth you will fail, but what matters isn't the fail itself but how you react to such a fail, some people become depressed because they've lived their whole lives top achievers and failing is foreign so they start doubting themselves don't be like that instead be teachable use failure as your fuel to become better do better. Make sure you keep a group of friends who are reliable and will be there to motivate you when you need some boost(we all need some boost from time to time). Prioritize university but don't make university the only thing you do find other hobbies like work, leadership positions, sports etc in addition to being beneficial to your cv extra curricular activities help you become a better time manager and active(funny enough you find that students who are more involved pass more than those who only focus on university and this is because if you only focus on one thing you always think you have all the time in the world and you most likely procrastinate whereas a busy person understands that time is limited and always makes the best use out if their time. However never bite more than you can chew😉) Enjoy university as much as possible, meet new people be approachable and always look for help should you be struggling never keep your problems to yourself there are always people there to help you. Be consistent study even when you don't feel like it, even when things get hectic which they will always push never give up be persistent. Never ever make fun of people who are repeating you will also find that you might repeat a course or two throughout your degree, instead befriend people who repeat as they know the best way to approach the course and what to avoid. Wits is a journey brace yourself for the ride full of tears and laughter it will be worth it. Good luck and all the best.

what is being said here is very true,I am not at wits .i am at Rhodes university and I have learned a lot in my first year 2020. To all the first years I just want to tell you that learn not to be disappointed . Sometimes you will be so prepared at something e.g exams but still fail , don't think too much when this happens bcz it will kill your happiness .Learn to stand up with more positivity after every downfall.
