As a lyricist I cannot handle how incredible the lyrics are. How many references and layers there are tucked into each line. Truly, it's an experience. I have listened to this song well over 100 times and I still feel so awed, humbled and delighted when listening to it. What a gift this man is.

The first 5 to 7 years of the Ritter music and lyrics is nothing short of phenomenal. Brings to mind the early Dylan days and how he has said those songs wrote themselves like they came down from above

I just realized today that the line is "our love would live a half-life on the surface" which is so crazy good

Absolutely. I think the same way as a songwriter/poet. It's the kind of song that makes you just put away the pen. Not in a defeated way, just an appreciative way. I also love how even the title of the song has depth and how the title makes sense after you hear the song.

Josh Ritter has told SO MANY POTATO STORIES over the years. I've heard at least three variations personally, bless him.

I'm only after finding out about Josh this week. I heard his music and loved it but never found out until recently. Googling different lyrics but it didn't work until I got lucky going through Spotify! Thanks very much for the upload

Not gonna lie, first time I played this song for my wife, she thought he said "I think about that great big butt, and I tapped it."

That one person who disliked this needs a smack upside the head to knock some sense into them.
