Yes, Kim Rysstad was a participant in this year's Stjernekamp ("star battle") and did a great interpretation of "Rise Like a Phoenix" in the Melodi Grand Prix/Eurovision-themed episode. In fact, he came 2nd in that contest. Sondrey (one of the pre-qualifiers) was also a participant this year. Lisa Børud participated in 2017, Raylee in 2014. For non-Norwegians who don't know what Stjernekamp is about: It's an annual music contest program on NRK where established artists compete in different genres. So basically, each artist has to pick a song to perform of the genre that's scheduled for the episode. There are 3 judges (including 1 "genre expert") who comments on each performance, but it's the viewers at home through televote who decide which artists advance to the next episode where there will be a new genre. The artist with the least amount of votes is eliminated, reducing the number of artists by 1 every week until the final which is a duel between the last two standing. To give you an idea on how tough this competition is: Besides every performance being done live, they only have 1 week to prepare for the assigned genre, and if you're one of the artists making it halfway through the season, you'll now have to do 2 genres a week!

1 song, but in fact the semi finals contain 5 songs each, but one song fron each semi final are already qualified for the big final in Trondheim, by a jury. Some of the artists are well known from previous ESC and MGP: The brothers Didrik and Emil Sollie - Tangen (Didrik from ESC 2010 and Emil from MGP 2013, together with Gromth) Ulrikke from MGP 2017 (places) Tone Damli (Aaberge) from 2009. And 2 more artists.

It's the 5 different parts of Norway, the Southern part now, continuing with the Eastern and then the Mid and Western (not sure who's first) and the Northern at the end (8th of February). In Trondheim there will be 10 finalists.

@@lindakristinekjlibraten757 the semifinals have only 4 songs. The 5 prequalified songs are just being presented 1 at a time in each of the semifinals. I have a feeling that the reason why they are prequalified is that they are actually bigger names as well as mostly written by Norwegian and not Swedish writers... As to secure some Norwegian composed songs in the final as well.. I wouldn't be surprised to see even more songs by Laurell Barker and the swedes in the next 4 semifinals as well you see.

@@ZironixNO Yes I know there are 4 songs, but 5 were submitted to each of the semi finals. One song is already chosen by the juries, and the public will decide one of the remaining songs. I have no idea why they have chosen those artists, but yes the ones I mentioned here are more well known then the other artists. On the other hand, we don't know the remaining artists from the rest of the semi finals. So it's just left to see who they are. The song writers? I have no idea exept from Ulrikke's song written by Christian Ingebrigtsen and Kjetil Mørland.
