Hi Adam, thanks for your kind words. You are right, pretty tight the score hehe. Both are pretty good tools, Wix is aimed for beginners and WordPress for those that want more flexibility and a more powerful solution. What are your site requirements?
@oziozar5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I completely disagree with the pricing being a tie. It's always a pain in the ass to have a right hosting provider, and as a person who has an online shop developed on WordPress, there were many days that my hosting had issues that put me into trouble with my service which after a while forcing me to migrate to another hosting service and of course, pay more. After moving 3 times now, I have relatively better quality, but it didn't worth the effort. Unlike that, the fact that Wix provides the hosting eases your mind on that matter so If you are new into this things and you don't know much about hosting and how to move to a new provider and setting DNS, just go with Wix.
@tooltester5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ozi! Thanks for your feedback. Well, the thing with WordPress is that you can freely choose any hosting provider. Many people like that but of course you'll also have to set it up yourself. But it's true that Wix's hosting generally works very reliably and is one thing less to worry about.

I loved the video. The only thing I don't agree with is pricing. I've been using Wix for the ease of use. I recently paid for a premium account with Wordpress so I could explore it's functionality. I pay $84/year with Wix. Up front, Wordpress was charging $96/year. However, that option only gave me access to "themes."I thought themes were templates. Instead, they are instructions on how to build your page to look like the theme. It wasn't that easy to follow. There are page builder plugins you could buy, but to be eligible for plugins I had to upgrade to a plan that was $300/year not to mention the additional cost for the plugin ($99), and whatever cost for the theme. I have all of these options with wix without the extra charges. The only reason I was looking to upgrade is becaus of the customization. I'm not at the point where I feel like it's worth to pay $400 (possibly more depending on other plugins needed).
@tooltester5 жыл бұрын
Hi Joann, tanks for sharing your feedback. I think you were using WordPress.com, in the video we compare Wix to WordPress.org (an open source CMS). On itself WordPress is free, but you'll need a hosting provider, a theme and perhaps paid plugins.
@SeasonsofSimone4 жыл бұрын
joannjoannjoann Hi! Can you explain how you were able to get the premium for that amount? Even when they do their 50% off domain sale the total yearly price upfront was like $130 with premium..

@@tooltester I believe that wordpress can cost atleast $48 /year. You can build your website yourself. Using free plugins (looking at user ratings) and a great and reasonable host. Don't forget coupon codes😊. But I think she took the wrong approach. Because you can set everything up for yourself for free.

Hi @@Euqinahs. I think you are referencing WordPress.com as WordPress.org itself is free - the one in the video is WordPress.org. @@wecallhimchristwist Hi Chris, thanks for your feedback! E-commerce is a pretty complex topic. This is one of the reasons why we have separate videos for this. But we will consider adding a short section about e-commerce to our next video update. If you'd like to find out more about Wix e-commerce, you can check out this video if you like: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3LTop2nidp-esk. Doing a general review about e-commerce with WordPress is a bit difficult, since the outcome of your website depends on what kind of plugin, theme or hosting provider you use. A popular plugin is for example WooCommerce. You can find more info about it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqaYh5KXhbJ2b7s and our written review: www.websitetooltester.com/en/reviews/woocommerce/. Generally speaking, it depends on your exact requirements, whether Wix or WordPress is more suitable for your e-commerce website. You already have quite a bit of features with Wix and for smaller to medium-sized websites, this is often already sufficient. However, you have even more customization options with WordPress and you can create bigger websites. This is also a more complicated solution though, since you need a bit of programming knowledge.

I had no idea how to make a website yet in 6 hours mine was almost finished with uploaded animations, clickable hidden links, photo albums etc. So easy to use. Then one day I tried to edit a Squarespace website - totally did my head in! What are they smoking?? So I just looked online to see what Worpress is all about and having built 4 websites in wix I really can't be bothered with the potential headache. Nothing looks simple and it seems to be rife with pitfalls and hidden costs. I'm guessing Wordpress is for dedicated online users who have nothing else on their plate like print. Just my thoughts.

Definitely, Wix is a lot easier to use and already gives you quite a lot of design freedom. However, it also can have its limits depending on the requirements. WordPress is the more powerful solution and can be more suitable in moments where Wix doesn't meet the needs anymore. The big con here in indeed that it's rather suitable for experienced users with advanced tech knowledge.

@tooltester5 жыл бұрын
Hi! We haven't tested Elementor, but we have experiences with Visual Composer which is quite similar (drag 'n drop editor). The main difference is that these plugins depend on WordPress. Unfortunately, this can cause a lot of issues (with the WordPress core version, theme, other plugin etc.). Wix and Squarespace don't depend on other 3rd parties. You also don't have to care about technical updates and backups. This is all done by the provider. Therefore, I'd only recommend a solution like Elementor if you already have experience with WordPress.

@@markovucilovski9876 Hi Marko, we've actually written quite a bit about page speed in our accompanying blog post: www.tooltester.com/en/blog/wix-vs-wordpress/?#Website_loading_speeds_Are_Wix_or_WordPress_sites_faster WordPress generally isn't faster than Wix as our analysis of 400 random websites for each website builder shows: www.tooltester.com/en/blog/website-loading-time-statistics/? But one thing is true, you do have better ways to speed up your website (caching plugins, image optimization plugins etc.) That's why we awarded the speed point to WordPress. Also the SEO point goes to WordPress. Sounds fair?
@markovucilovski98762 жыл бұрын
@UC5xdD3h5t4ml7ghDukwm3wg I'm happy with your answer. The only thing Wix currently lacks (IMO, since they cost about three times what you'd pay with a WordPress site) is removal of unused code. In wordpress you have numerous free plugins that remove all unused code with one click and as a result, they speed upyour website tremendously (especially on mobile). Once (or if) Wix implements such a plugin or app, it will have the edge over wordpress.

I am writing a smart CV and I want to put a link to my paintings and drawings. the thing is which one do I need a website or a blog? and which one should I use Wix or WordPress? I want to make an online portfolio so can you help me decide or suggest something that can put me on the right track.
@tooltester4 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzan! I think in your case Wix would be by far the easier option as it's great for small portfolio sites. You would need a website. If you want to publish regular articles it would be a blog. With Wix you can also easily add a blog should you need it one day. Let me know if you have any further questions!

Can someone please answer this for me. I’m interested in knowing if Wix allows you to back up your website on your computer, or a 3rd party website. I don’t like the idea of putting 1000’s of hours into building a site, only to lose it because of some glitch on their end. Is there another option to add an additional layer of protection? I also wanted to know if Wix allows you to sell your website. If I start generating an income from it, then there is always the possibility I may want to sell it. Am I allowed to sell my website to someone else? These are the two biggest issues for me right now, which is making me wonder if I should just learn Wordpress. I appreciate an insight anyone may have on this.

Hi there. You won't be able to backup a Wix website outside their system. However, all Wix sites com with a version control of all your changes, so you could restore your site to a previous version very easily. Yes, you should be able to sell a Wix website, but please contact their support to double check. More information: www.websitetooltester.com/en/reviews/wix-review/

Hello, I am researching a website builder to put my UX design portfolio together. I am very overwhelmed with the option to choose from. I do not have any coding experience and I think you need some when it comes to Wordpress? I would like to have some features like including a sidebar and embedding interactive tools into the website. Do any of the website builders like Squarespace, Wix, or Webflow offer these features? Thank you.
@tooltester3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sasha. Since you say that you don't have any programming skills, you might want to try with Wix first. Their editor is beginner-friendly, has many features and you can create side menus and implement some interactive features. With Webflow you will for sure be able to create this kind of website, but it's a bit more of a complicated tool and you need some programming skills. With Squarespace you can change the style of your sidebar, in case the template you choose has got one.

I already have a domain name & host using wix & godaddy but I want to create more customized blog posts... is it possible to just use wordpress for blog creation alone & then transfer those blogs over to my wix site? I'm just trying to sort through the best option in combining wordpress & wix... thanks in advance!!
@tooltester4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Unfortunately, you won't be able to directly transfer a WordPress post/blog to Wix. You could do a little workaround though and use WordPress for your blog and Wix for your website. You can just install WordPress on a subdirectory (e.g. your-site.com/blog) and link to it from your Wix site.

Hi Oveana. Hmmm, well migrations are always a bit complex and can take some time. I don't think Wix is the best blogging solution (not bad, but there are better alternatives, check Squarespace and Weebly for example). Can anyone help? As far as I can see there's no way on Wix for users to update data that they submitted previously. For example to edit a brief resume or just to change their address. Seems like an elementary requirement to me, which is why I never thought there would be a problem when I signed up with them. This is an absolute MUST on the site I'm developing. I've done quite a bit of work and now it looks like it's been wasted. Is there any hack to get Wix to do this? If not, does Wordpress, Squarespace or any other tool allow you to?
@tooltester4 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham. Hmmm, I am afraid that what you have in mind goes beyond the capabilities of Wix and any other website builder. You can use Wix Corvid, Wix's version aimed for developers, I believe you could allow users to edit their profile pages (I understand you'd like to create something similar to a community site). But I do think for complex projects WordPress is a bit more suited, also it's more technical.

But with latest wix code and node js integration, 98%flexibility is obtained. Again in India , the cost of a wix e commerce level plan (named premium in India) is about 18 rs i.e. about 0.25 dollars a month

Good point! Yes, the price in India is unbeatable. That makes it very attractive for users who aren't very tech-savvy but need a website. It's also great to see that Wix has introduced these coding features.

I used both of them, and the worst point of Wix is that if you don't know about code, java script, Dom, ect, all this interactions (easy use) is creating new data that you cannot optimized good enough.. So you website is slow in loading time, therefore your ranking in Google lose points.. I think is a good point that people have to know, if you are not a informatic professional is going to struggle you..

Hi Maria. Website loading speed can be tricky, and yes overall WordPress offers more speed optimization options. However, you'll need to know what you are doing when optimizing your WordPress site too (e.g. caching plugins).

Hi there. You don't share what are your requirements, but generally speaking, Wix is better for smaller websites (e.g. not more than 60 or 70 pages) and it's suitable for users that don't have a lot of technical knowledge. On the other hand, WordPress is a more powerful solution, but it will require technical knowledge. Find more information here: www.websitetooltester.com/en/blog/wix-vs-wordpress/?

If you mean an editor to customize how your site will show on mobiles, probably Wix is the best one. If you mean an editor where you can work on a phone, I think none are great - better to use a desktop or laptop to work on your website.

Hi Emily. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "professional" :). Wix and WordPress are both really good tools, but they offer different possibilities. Wix is easy to use and beginner-friendly, as it offers a visual editor with many built-in functions. With WordPress, you've got more customization options, as you have more power over your website code and there are various plug-ins and themes to adapt your website to your needs. However, it's also more complicated, as you need a bit of programming knowledge.

I disagree with the costs. Wix is way affordable compared to WP. In WP the hosting, adds on, domains, etc, accumulate and make WP cost a lot. (Almost twice the Wix cost)
@tooltester3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. This is in a way true, but it depends. You'll also have to invest a bit of money when using WordPress, especially at the beginning, when buying a theme, getting a hosting provider (or for hiring a developer). However, in the long run, WordPress can be cheaper (depending on the kind of website you built). You have to think that you're bound to the same monthly costs with Wix, whereas when you're building a website with WordPress, some points are one-time investments. But like mentioned, it really depends. If you have a huge website, you hire a developer, and you need to continue using the help of a developer to maintain the website, then yes - it might be more expensive.
