Wizard Hell Razor 120w KT66

Looking at getting my first Wizard. Gun to your head, which one are you keeping? I can't afford to choose the wrong one 😂 Nice Death riffs too 🤘

Tough call, but it'd be between this Hell Razor or my MTL Mk2 KT150. Both are killer in their own way. If you lean towards more modern metal, the Hell Razor is the way to go. If you want a good hard rock and metal amp with a good crunch and clean, the MTL would be the way to go. The MTL is no slouch for metal, I just think the HR is the new Wizard king for metal

I believe the HR doesn't have a gain control on the clean channel. If this is correct, it materially reduces its effectiveness. That might not be a problem if you have other amps and it's a studio kind of scenario. I have a MTL and the clean channel does great pushed cleans and rock kinds of tones. I prefer my Hybrid for that kind of stuff more, but I could also live with the MTL as my only amp just fine if it came down to it.

uff this is sick, it sounds super loud. Can the wizards do bedroom volume?

They do decent at lower volume, but they shine when turned up a little. In this video, I wouldn't say it was super loud. More like loud room volume...noting that would destroy your ears.... about where I generally have it when I'm up playing.

Matt.. killer Wizard there.. damn they are aggressive.. bite and snarl.. given the choices and playing old school ACDC.. up to modern day Wolf Hoffman ACCEPT.. (no modern metal).. which Wizard does that Marshally upper mid bite the best?.. I think the Youngs used VC and Hoffman used the MC earlier iterations.. but MK I versions.. i think the MK II add quite a bit..

I would definitely say the MC or MC2. The MC2 basically gives you better control on the clean/rhythm channel plus the added contour control. Lead channel on the mc2 is the same as the MC if you max out the contour

The W800 would be another great choice, but the MC2 is more versatile

The Uber is more modern voiced in the mids compared to the MTL and has more gain and compression. Uber lacks the clarity of the Wizard and not as much punch or low end. Wizards have a thicker tone. the Uber is closer to Hell Razor than the MTL. It’s a great amp.

I dont need or want another Wizard in the collection, but curious what we are dealijg with the relative differences between this new offering and the MTL, Hybrid, and MC II?

Primarily the amount of gain and the voicing. It has a lot more gain compared the MTL and the voicing is much more modern metal voiced.

@mhenson42 Thanks for the reply and also thanks for posting videos. Does modern metal mean more low end and low mids, more scooped mids, or both? I love the texture of the low end and the ripping dynamics of my MTL but I also struggle a lot of the times for more rock oriented tones with it because it kind of has a bit of a hole in the mids and just missing something there that my Hybrid and MC II are not lacking in. The Hybrid really is the best all-rounder for me, but I got a little curious to see if this new beast was a MTL like derivative with mids that were shading towards the Hybrid territory (right direction) or comparable or even more scooped mids compared to the MTL (wrong direction for me). I could also get an itch for a Wizard that shaded a bit towards Recto territory with a relatively more chewy texture, but I don't think I'm hearing anything like that.

@@Tiger1016. Yeah. I would say that. It's more of a low mid amp with the mids more scooped with the shift. IF you want the high mids, the w800/MC2 have more of that.
