was there in 1980. The true surf adventure. Crash course in the local lingo and found our waves around Bangko Bangko.

What an amazing adventure and what wild styles they had back then ❤

Wow.... The early 80's were probably the best time for a Free surfer backpacker to be alive : Music, cheap "morning price", fried noodles for quarter of a $ penny, no fights at the lineup or noisy and rich speedboats surf tour reaching G-Land in 2h from their fancy resorts on molested Uluwatu hills and Bukit. In 2024, if i had to choose for a wild and more lonely surftrip experience, i would explore all the Java south coast (skipping G-land) and following the cost until Sumatra. Probably best option these days if you want to avoid the crowds and not afraid by the unknown powerful waves, sharks, reef, and strong current (no jets, paddle only , hazardous cliffs and rocky jumps to reach the lineups). No resorts, plenty of fisherman's villages. Cons: Not always roads, far from any hospital, no 🏧, have to hide your cash in the bush before paddle out. Pack light but still carry first motobike repair, equipments for camping. Trucks drivers if you have to leave the cost on bigger roads are really deadly ✅🤙🏻🌏

really cool video, i cant help notice one thing though - maybe its the type of board they are riding, or its how we perceive style differently now versus 40 years ago - but these surfers look kinda... average? like you could nowadays go to any pumping break in Indonesia and see several surfers that are way more technical and fluid than these guys... i know im gonna get a lot of hate for this comment, but you know it to be true
