on the CoC and the tension aspect as well as dredd forming as a game master I need to look more into developing that skillset if I want to brush off my GM skills and maybe put together my system in one place to be used by others, as I have gotten good enough to require people to bring their asthma inhalers to the game from the action and combat portion of my games but that building of tension and sense of urgency and seriousness I really never truly mastered, it just often happened accidentally when it did. (and I did not really count on its importance as much too, even though I did put a lot of importance on problem and mystery solving which I don't think really covers the "how to make it mysterious," just because I could make a mystery. lol.

I think the important thing with that is being able to improvise well. You don't have to describe something super eloquently the first time through. Sometimes I'll write down room or creature reveal descriptions while players are on a break, though, just in case I want to word things a specific way. Having a notebook on hand to jot things down is definitely helpful!

you should look at "the magic historian" channel and see his take on this whole fiasco and his speculation on why they have been doing various things to squeeze both the MTG and D&D groups within WotC company and such LOL

I do watch a few of them, even though I don't play Magic that much anymore (I still have a ton of cards, but the game is just too expensive for my blood.)

apparently WotC was supposed to be their ace in the hole for the rest of their company profile losing value across the board, (how much action does hasbro have in saturday morning cartoon land to bring in new kids interested in toys on their IP?) LOL and this huge mistake to squeeze things, has definitely caused that to backfire

Well, Saturday morning cartoons aren't a thing anymore. So that certainly doesn't help. No commercials to push to kids through relentless ad blocks. lol
