I feel like the character arcs in these games (like Shane's) are more pointed because of the time in between scenes. You might have to wait days or weeks in in-game time between the evolving story, which makes you pay closer attention and anticipate them much more.

Never knew that Stardew Valley covered mental health so that was interesting to find out. Yet another reason for me to play it and not keep the game on my backlog. Great video by the way! Discussing mental health and its portrayal in media is so important, and I don’t see it talked about in games enough.

Holy shit, Wizzy. This was some next level stuff. I haven’t gotten to picking up Stardew and/or staking a claim in said Valley yet, but now I am more intrigued than ever. The commentary on the horrors capitalism you brought up for even a mere second and how that later reflected, in part, on Shane’s story, helped put into perspective some of the palpable feelings I come across myself as I just listened to all this toiling away at my job. Finding just one slice of life in the midst of all this turmoil finally bubbling over is luckily something I have found in the relationship with my girlfriend and the games I am ever so slowly crawling through tightly sidled between work and school. With most of my friends having moved away and meaningful human connection seeming ever rarer in person, it’s good to discover these perplexities being covered in games acting as a mirror into our own lives. Phenomenal work and thanks for even more inspiration in getting my own writing going to eventually make powerful pieces as profound as this one.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience in an engaging way. As the pandemic left no person untouched, I was, perhaps, affected in a manner that seems silly compared to other people. I retreated from my duties as a son and as a student. I retreated from the world and spent a year shirking from my responsibilities. I was ashamed yet unwilling to change. I read fiction and played games while avoiding homework and lessons. I'm plenty afraid of starting that one step to catching up on what I've missed and fixing all that my procrastination broke. This video helped me come to terms with my own demons and problems. I thank you for that. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content in the future!

I wish you the best of luck with getting your life back on track, thank you! 🙏

I am so happy that Razbuten suggested other youtubers like him to watch. This is an amazing video and only seeing about 600 people watch this is quite sad. I have put 70 hours in the game and mostly only fished and got a wife in the game stopping after that. I didn't know what I missed and it was quite enjoyable to watch other people play the game the way they like to. I barely scratched the surface of the game. I love the game and have suggested it to many people but man I have not stayed to long on it. I want to experience it with another person though. So its not just my experience its a experience that me and someone else share. Amazing video man keep it up.

Great video! Found this interesting because I have a video with an opposite conclusion in why Animal Crossing was what I needed even though I never play these sort of games. As a disabled person, the idea of anything is possible as one person just doesn't sit right. I want a sense of community which I feel Animal Crossing allowed with a shared island. Somewhere I don't have to do it all.

Abigail is best girl. But yeah, Stardew Valley did SO much right, that even the upcoming Story of Seasons launching next month actually feels like it's taking a lot of inspiration from the game. I'm really glad this game was able to be a place of comfort for you during an insane year. I know I definitely went back to it more than once throughout 2020. P.S. I disagree with one thing in your "mediocre Harvest Moon" list in that I actually thought Animal Parade is actually one of the better games in the overall franchise.

I probably can’t get you to see this but immediately upon hearing the mentality of stardew valley over New Horizons-I knew city folk would be perfect possibly. I love city folk for the Wii, and you can play it on the WiiU obviously. It’s a much more down to earth game with way more goals and sense of progress than New Horizons. I know it has the same team as usual but it’s really a fancy Minecraft almost.
@jugbandbluesz8 ай бұрын
Animal Crossing City Folk is the most engaging game I’ve ever played. I’m a bit biased, the Wii is just the ultimate experience for a plethora of reasons. But seriously, as an adult I find myself playing city folk more hours than I do super Mario Galaxy.
@wizawhat8 ай бұрын
Don't worry, I see all the comments :) I'll keep that in mind regarding City Folk. Don't see people talking about it very often. It's most often overshadowed by New Leaf.
@jugbandbluesz8 ай бұрын
@@wizawhat I think like any game, it’s visuals and unique traits from other games in the series, brings a new experience to the same name. I really enjoy the music specific to city folk. I also just prefer how it looks way more than every other game. I love going to the Roost (oh the music is just unmatched) and Seeing K.K. on Saturdays. The credit scenes have the cutest animation sequences. I just can’t explain how much this game was overlooked as you said. There is a lot that 2008’s AC offers that people would really like. I know people play it, but sale wise and even talk in the community, doesn’t reflect the beauty of it’s design and programming. Obviously liking a game is subjective though, but I know there’s people who would be lesser likely to play it than may not realize how much fun it could be for them.

Came here from Razbuten and this video is awesome! I loved playing Stardew Valley and ended up with Shane, because his Story is so horribly real. But you actually made me get my DS again and play Harvest Moon Island of Happiness, since its my favorite HM of all time and I will try not to be offended by you putting it in with the worst HM Games ever xD
@wizawhat3 жыл бұрын
Admittedly, I included that list not because I personally feel those games are mediocre, but because they lack the legacy and impact of the originals. I just don't see a lot of people talking about Island of Happiness so it's entirely possible it's a great game. If you regard it as your favorite I'm sure there's some great stuff going on there and I don't want to minimize how important it is to you. Hot Take Alert: Pierre wants Jojamart gone so that he can reclaim his monopoly in Stardew Valley. I joke (kinda). The characters in this game are beautifully fleshed out, flawed, realistic people. You know how you said that everyone was initially cold when you meet them? Imagine in today's society actually just going up to a stranger to strike up conversation. I would struggle so much with that. (Although the random weekly gifts isn't exactly realistic). Everyone is a bit weird and things take time, which SV nails unlike so many other RPGs where you can become best friends after one conversation or a favour. Shane's feelings about working a retail job are 100% realistic and affected me and others I worked with. One thing I find interesting about the game too is its possible to fall back into the min-max capitalism mindset that causes your character to quit their job. Spending all day running all the chores in Year 1 caused me to not see any of the other characters for a couple of weeks. It took me a little while to accept that becoming the no1 farming billionaire wasn't for me because "why wouldn't you want to make as much money as possible". Anyway, enjoyed the vid mate. Thanks for the upload.
@wizawhat3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm definitely one of those min-maxing players LOL but I can't help myself sometimes! I think another thing that's great about this is the fact that once you complete the community center, your next goal isn't super apparent. It's what caused me to catch my breath and engage with the other parts of the game I was neglecting
