Wizpig's Purple Boost Challenge (Diddy Kong Racing)

A demonstration of what I like to call the "cheap" way to use purple boosts. Inspired by ArgonMatrix's "green boost-less" LP of Diddy Kong Racing, I decided to try my hand at beating the first Wizpig race without using any green boosts. After about half an hour, I was convinced it was impossible, but I stumbled upon a little trick. Similarly to how you let off the accelerator just before hitting a zipper to get a green boost, you can let go of the accelerator AFTER hitting the zipper to get an extended purple boost. It takes a little practice to get the proper timing and is in every way inferior to the green boost, but it proved to be very useful for the purposes of the challenge. That said, I have the utmost respect for Argon completing this challenge, especially without using this trick. Hats off to you, sir!
This was performed using the same set-up I used for my LP of Adventure Two, and after watching Argon's stream last Thursday I noticed some key differences between his runs and my own:
1) Argon was slightly faster than me, being able to get in front of Wizpig fairly easily at the start of the race to be kicked forward.
2) Not once did Wizpig run him over despite his key strategy being to have Wizpig kick him forward. In contrast, half of my own attempts were literally squashed by Wizpig's oversized hooves.
3) My Wizpig consistently finished a good 3 seconds before his. I don't know if my clock was running slower or my Wizpig was running faster.
I can't tell if these differences were the result of us playing different versions of the game or the fact that I wasn't playing on the actual N64, but I don't believe I would have been able to implement his strategy if I knew about it beforehand. That said, I could just as easily scrounge for my DKR cartridge, plop it in and give it a go, but in all honesty, I'm not in any hurry to do that. I simply don't have the time or the patience.
And to anyone who watched my DKR LP, note that this was recorded using Fraps as opposed to Camstudio. Notice a difference in quality?

Tiptop was actually the only one I could beat wizpig with and this was with green boost. Hats off to you for purple boosts

Love it. What a nail biter. How the challenge should go. Refreshing to see him come close as opposed to these other videos where they just utterly thrash him with green boosts. Bring me back to when I was a kid and the anxiety that came with this race lol. Though I may be remembering wrong but I could have sworn back on the 64 he got way more of a head start than that and also remember he would always squish you if clipped with his model.

This literally just screams "me when i was little", since i always used Tiptup. I used to lose a lot in this race (and also get scared for that pig), but once i got to beat him, i literally was happy. Then Wizpig attacked everyone at the party, and i got scared again.

Nice run man! Speaking from personal experience I have the highest praise for your ability to pull this off even when using that extended purple boost trick! I assume Wizpig was faster on your game because it wasn't on the actual console and that makes this even more impressive. Hats off to you sir!

@William5000000 I wonder what triggers Wizpig's starting speed and whether or not different emulators exhibit the same effect, but it's good to know I wasn't the only one who experienced those differences. I figure if anyone would know, it would be you.

@chroprs On the actual console perhaps, but not on an emulator. Wizpig gets an instant boost off the starting line decreasing his time by 3 seconds.
