Kiyoshi Kimura I don't think you know why they were clapping.It had nothing to do with with turbulence all to do with a majority of people onboard that flight returning home to their homeland, perhaps after years of being away! It's a joyous occasion. Whenever a flight landed in Portugal when I was young, the Portuguese immigrants clapped with joy..Oh the good old days!

David my man ! The round of applause was for the safe landing , trust me . In eastern Europe it is not a tradition anymore to celebrate the captain or the crew anymore (unfortunately). You can hear the relive in the voices of the passangers once they touch down .

This is not heavy turbulence. In heavy turbulence people hit the ceiling of the aircraft if they're not buckled in.

I remember flying to Cuba one time and we were just flying over the straits of Florida right through a small storm. At one point the left engine briefly gave out sending people flying all over the place and while I was buckled in, I still nearly hit the ceiling. We fell at least 1km before the pilots regained control. Now that was some scary shit.

Alex Penney That's the worst, because when you're landing you just want to get off and go home. Horrible feeling. I've landed at Gibraltar and that was a bit harrowing.
@heatherstub
@heatherstub 8 жыл бұрын
+importedmusic Sometimes, it's even more dangerous to do that, especially if there's windsheer close to the ground. When you have one column of fast, rising air and another column of rapidly descending cold air, you get windsheer, and this can actually bring a plane down. It's much safer to avoid trying to land at that point. Yeah, it's scary, but the pilot has trained in some of the most horrifying situations and knows what's best for the passengers. Still, I've been through a similar situation, and I had a Guide Dog sitting on the floor, and I had my legs firmly holding her shoulders and her leash clipped to my seatbelt just in case she became airborne.

I traveled from Geneva to Warsaw at the same period of time, on August 16 2015. We went through a region of strong thunderstorms over Germany, there were about 30 minutes of the strongest turbulence I have ever experienced. The plane was shaking terribly, the parts of the plane were squeaking loudly like there were about to break off. Our Embraer made a dozen of very deep and frightening dives in the air before we were able to get out from the clouds.

@OortCloud

beautylov3r Turbulence Has no effect on Electricity. Wow. The lights have an effect on the engine which causes the engines to slow down. Maybe they were testing it, there is usually less stress on the engines on cruising altitude or landing. But turbulence has no effect on the planes electricity.

I’ve also been on a flight with quite bad turbulence and the lights in the cabin were flickering on and off the whole time. It freaked me out because I wondered how on earth a bit of turbulence could be affecting the aircraft’s electrics. Also the engines kept spooling up and down repeatedly.

Wow! That pilot did a great job! Imagine having a Guide Dog sitting on the floor with you, and you have to keep her sitting and not lying down. I had to clip her leash to the seatbelt, brace her between my legs facing backward, and hold on tight. She was very glad to get off the airplane, too. I was coming in to Atlanta during thunderstorms, and that was the classic situation right there. I don't like turbulence, either, and I've been through some very bad ones.

I remember when I was in the plane approaching Vilnius it was very windy. Its windy all the time there, about 10 minutes before the landing we were turning and all suddenly we lost control. Only a few people screamed. By losing control I mean stall because it felt like I was falling but luckily the pilot landed safely. It was so windy there that even when the plane was parked at the gate the plane was still slightly shaking! The pilot looked about 50 years old btw. That was the scariest time of my life.

In the modern era of flight no plane has ever crashed do only to turbulence. Modern jets are tested to stresses greater then anything they could face due to weather. The only thing that could possibly down a jet would be flying into the eye of a hurricane.

The only reason they were scared is not the turbulence but the retraction if the ground spoilers, the airbus aircraft make an angle correction when they are deployed and retracted to retain the best profile for flight, the retraction if spoilers at lower speeds causes the nose to go down a bit, which gives a temporary falling feeling, it’s all normal procedure and normal plane behavior, but some people don’t get it, it’s basic on the spot physics... I guess not in the current times

Nothing. Actual heavy turbulence is when you’ll hit the ceiling if you’re not buckled it. Happens from time to time if you rack up a few million miles flown. My dad had a fellow passenger hit the ceiling when his seatbelt wasn’t on from a thunder clap (lightning strikes below the aircraft, heating the air, an expansion process. The air cools and consequently all the air contracts back in, including the patch of air the airplane is traveling though)

Is it weird that I find turbulence fun? I also find mild earthquakes fun....and roller coasters, and thunder storms. Yeah maybe I'm just weird. In all seriousness though, my first plane ride occurred when I was just a baby. I've never been scared during a plane ride. In fact, I rather love them.

Hey there. You've got the left speaker (ear) blocked for some reason. Much of the sound is coming in my right ear. Any particular reason? Otherwise, very good vid. I can tell they're bouncing around a lot. I do not like turbulence, and my Guide Dog wouldn't like them either.

Oops. I already commented about this one. The time I did that, I was listening to the video without headphones on, and now they are on. Sorry about that.

Well, in the USA, there's no yelling during turbulence or clapping during the landing. I guess it's because it's more casual for people here. Though, I will get stressed during turbulence. Still, nice video.

Its a well known fact in the air transport industry that 90% of airplane accidents happen on takeoff or landing. So i guess in a sense, yep... landing is remarkable at times.

Wind-shear...Very dangerous condition...L1011, flight 191 crashed a mile short of the 17L, DFW airport in 1985, killing 136 people...as a direct result of storm created wind shear...Whole new radar systems were created to detect it...

Yes, that thought came to mind. Seems to Doppler radar in place to measure wind shear over there? I don't think the pilot saw that one coming at all.

If you’re coming in to land there’s nothing to worry about. It’s flying through storms or a bird strike on takeoff that scare me

Thats not real turbulence. Turbulence is when you hit the ceiling then back on the floor, and the luggage compartments pop open spewing baggage all over the cabin. I survived that on a flight to Atlanta. Thats when you figure out that planes are a whole lot tougher than you might think.

Flying is safe but scary. Less than 1% of accidents lead to fatal outcome. But there are lot of accidents every year, landing without the chassis, exploding windows, malfunctioning engines, almost crashes while taxi in airport etc. etc.
