Aight it's been quite a while since I've written a full essay about an OG Vibe of mine, cuz most of them are reuploads, so since this is a fresh new OG Vibe here we go for old times sake and also since today is 9/13, 2Pac's unfortunate "death day"... R.I.P.
Honestly, I originally had NOOOOOO thoughts of doing an OG Vibe for "Everything They Owe" until having numerous conversations with my homey JoeCool/Roscoeoutlaw about it. Not diss this OG, but I never really felt one way or the other about it. I kinda thought of it the same way I thought of songs like "Never Be Peace" and "The Struggle Continues":
It's cool.
2Pac's experimenting calling back to his militant, conscious subject matter reminiscent of songs of the "2Pacalypse Now' and somewhat "Strictly 4 My Niggaz" eras, with his newer"All Eyez On Me" rap style.
The beat was pretty much just a loop with a few variations on the bass line here and there.
The more I worked on remaking the beat under the acapella I started really paying attention to 2Pac's lyrics and was able to visualize him in a courtroom representing himself stating his case to a judge, hence why I added sample of a judge saying "order in the court" along with a sample of people talking in a courtroom setting.
Of course I resampled the sample Johnny J used in the OG and used the same drums he used to keep the vibe intact, replayed the bass line. Now when it came to the new instruments I added some Rhodes, DX Rhodes, Orchestra Strings and Violins to enhance the vibe
For the end section I added in an excerpt of his 1995 interview with Chuck Phillips.
Damn, 1995... I was only 14 then. Soooooo much time has passed, yet here we all STILL bumping 2Pac's music as if it came out yesterday. 😁
