Why is one year not enough, and what makes you think he hasn’t learnt his lesson? Swatting is reprehensible behaviour, but it’s not so much worse than usual teenage stuff. What would be gained keeping him in prison? You obviously were perfect when you were a teenager and I’m sure you’ve never broken a single law in your entire life. Teenagers do stupid stuff; I would hate to live in a country where teenagers are lifed off for stupid things where no one was harmed in any way. Even if you have no sympathy at all, it’s extremely expensive keeping people incarcerated; for adults it’s about $30,000 a year; for kids it’s considerably higher. That’s not to mention the waste of potential; it’s a complete waste of life. He could start start multiple businesses, build a house, have ten kids and then become president. Or he could join the military or something. Putting a teenager (or anyone) in prison when it isn’t actually necessary is a waste, and it’s cruel

@@user-ze4ue5kc1h I've done alot more research since then, and what I've found out is that it is just as simple as: If you commit an internet related crime, the authorities of that area have the right to charge you pertinent to the acclicable law; state or federal. And, your right: The feds just about never prosecute juveniles.

They can give for waive jurisdiction to other districts. Sometimes they do that to give them more time. I'd like to see him do that 20 years.
@benhart77711 ай бұрын
The local court still has jurisdiction because that’s where the defendant was when he committed the offence; the feds could have claimed jurisdiction and picked up the case but they didn’t. The feds can pick and choose their cases and they only prosecute ones they can absolutely definitely win, hence having a 98.5% conviction rate compared to like 70% in county and state courts, and also this is a pretty minor case
@benhart77711 ай бұрын
@@q.t.gamingfamily why would you like to see him do 20 years? Do you enjoy other people’s suffering or something? I think he’s learnt his lesson after a year in jail, and now he’s got 5 years probation so he’ll have to be on his best behaviour. So why do you think he should get 20 years? Because excessively long sentences don’t actually work as a deterrent, and he doesn’t appear to be a risk to the public? How about a bit of mercy for a young man. Life’s hard enough without spending 20 years in prison for a stupid mistake as a teenager that ultimately caused no harm to anyone else. I’m pleased that the judge agreed with me rather than you, because 20 years would have been completely disproportionate. People often get less than 20 for rape or even 2nd degree murder. It also costs an absolute fortune keeping someone locked up for 20 years, probably over a $million, not to mention the absolute waste of human potential
