I love my Planet X Tempest V3. I found one lightly used locally and bought it for my birthday since I wanted a gravel bike that I could use as my everyday bike where I didn’t have to go crazy worrying about scratches and cracks on my Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8.0 Disc. The previous owner changed the seat post to a carbon 3T one, I put a Prologo saddle on, and I put on some slick Panaracer GravelKings and some cheap light platform pedals on. The titanium frame plus the 42mm tires makes for bike that soaks up all of the road perfections and can handle some packed dirt trails with ease. I love having a more casual bike where I don’t have to wear clipless shoes and the bike’s more relaxed geometry makes it a pleasure to ride. The only thing mechanically I have changed are the brake pads and I have found that the brakes are a bit loud even with them setup properly. Thanks for making the video, it helped making the decision to buy the bike a no brainer since there is very little to no content on this bike.

Really enjoyed your video Marcus. You always do such a great job in welcoming the viewer and speaking to them in such a way that one feels they are on the trail with you by your side for a ride. You may not realize it but you are a very gifted individual. Specifically the gift of gab. You are never lost for words. That my friend is not something I could do nor many others. Looking forward to your next video. Thank you for what you do.

Can just agree with you! I've hade my own for about two months now. Got it with some off the shelf upgrades from PlanetX like carbon seatpost and lighter saddle. Did some later upgrades to handlebars and tubeless WTB Riddler 45c tires. Love how it rides, and must say i am surprised how fast you can go on it. A real KOM rocket!

Great review. I would suggest, flared handlebars and use the drops a little more. When you reduced the width, you've reduced your balance off road. Also wider and gripper tyres. You can also adjust the position of bottle cage.

Happy to see your one year review; just after my Tempest had it's first birthday! Your videos Marcus were what pushed me to get my Tempest in Ultegra/GRX mix, with off-the-shelf PX upgraded Selcof CF seatpost, Token gravel wheelset (1.54kg) & 43mm Bruce Gordon Rock 'n Road tyres (550g each). Which tyres (BG RnR) are incredibly versatile, comfy & faster than one would think. Like Joel Gandlor who commented earlier, this bike surprised me at how fast it can be, achieving some Top Ten of all time segments in Strava (!) both off-road & on smooth tarmac ; no mean feat for this 49 year old beginner. With a Selcof Sterrato flared handlebar (comfiest I've ever owned), PX Aluminium stem, PX flat pedals & 2x bottle cages mine weighs in at 10.44kg. Yours weighed in at 9.01kg with pedals & I presume bottle cages. Congrats as IMO that is quite light for a Ti bike with wide tyres! I am willing to throw some money at it to drop kilo from it if at all possible; but I don't know where to start, as I'm pleasantly surprised how comfy it all is.

Hi Joseph, it's always great to hear from you. I hope you're still enjoying your Tempest as much as I enjoy mine. You're right about the comfort, it really is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned - before and after the upgrades. Regarding the weight, I have an unhealthy obsession with losing grams on my bikes but, apart from changing the tyres, none of the other upgrades were really necessary, just personal preference. It's a fantastic bike straight out of the box. 👍🏽

I took delivery of my Tempest 2 months ago, Force group set, Selcof carbon seatpost, Fulcram 800 optional wheels with Rock and Road tyres. Loving it so far and have just picked up a pair of unused WTB i23 wheels for it. I am using it for gravel rides-obviously-and also as my winter bike-it is plenty fast enough for Sunday club runs whenever we are allowed to do them again. Keep riding it and posting your thoughts.

Hey buddy. Great review. I’ve not been on my tempest this year but will be back out on it soon. I’ve this morning purchased some 700c wheels mavic allroad SL and some wtb byways. Hi there ! I got my Tempest in June, unfortunately sanitary alarm let me bike packing only a week. But I enjoy a lot with the bike at the semidesert landscapes near Ebro river in the south of Spain. What I changed ? Seat , original its heavy any my back is used to Specialized Power Body geometry. I had any parts here and there ..Seat post and ring are Thompson, Stem is now a Zipp Course SL. Added a second layer of handle bar tape over the transparent and no value original. Pedals are Crankbrothers candy. And most of the money went to Fulcrum racing 3 with Shimano cassette and discs, rubbed with Hutchinson Overide.. I keep original Wheel set for complicated rock terrains or mud days to keep expenses ones for travel. Used it 3 or 4 days with my gruppetta and could maintain the rhythm but its not a road bike and back soon to Supersix. Agree with you its a "cheap" titanium; a bargain ??...... I and sure Planet X gave me at least what I paid, this not happens most of the times you buy a bike. Saludos from Spain, not the sunny part no, ride and be safe.

Big thumbs up to your excellent vid. I was toying with a canyon grail 7 but after being recommended this by a friend and your in depth vid this is the bike. Only concern is that it works well on tarmac. I've had a Genesis croix de fer and even though they are heavy it is great in the road as it's a tourer really. Also gonna have to have brown rim tyres, brown bar tape and brown saddle me thinks. Thanks Matt

Really enjoyable as usual mate. Those gravel king tyres and mud just don't get on. Helicopter tape is your friend for protecting your cranks. You don't need to worry about going into too much detail about the frame as most of what you hear is marketing waffle. Those rims look really cool.
