The suspect was fleeing officers out the back of the house and was not charging the officer that shot him. Horrible job by Volusia county police. Especially opening fire in the direction of pursuing officers. Glad bodycam footage exists to help the victim of police brutality.

Excellent maneuvering. A+ to the LEO in charge there. Kept his head, kept calm, kept his officers calm, and ran by textbook for the situation. Doesn't get better than that for the situation on hand. Too bad non-lethal couldn't be deployed properly, but kudos for saving him after. Total professionalism all around. Hope that young man gets the help he needs, and I hope the older couple can work through their grief.

This is one of the best coordinated approaches by LEOs I've ever seen. Not everyone shouting often conflicting commands, just one lead LEO asking for up-to-date info, guiding the team and reinforcing the sense of command and confidence to ensure the minimum of effective force applied in a very stressful situation. Well done sirs! (Yes, even the female LEOs are included in this greeting)
@6time686
@6time686 Жыл бұрын
It's pretty safe to say you haven't seen many "coordinated approaches". Deputies first approach suspect and stand less than six feet away. The suspect can close that distance in 2 seconds. They would have been forced to take quick steps backward while trying to draw firearms with a staircase behind. Man has a knife deputy has his Tazer out. He would have been seriously injured or fatally stabbed with his gun still in its holster. It appears while at the front door, the Deputy on the right has not drawn his firearm either. The corners of the house are glass. The suspect retreats back inside and the Deputies have no idea if he has a gun or another suspect is inside but stand by the windows of the home exposing themselves to possible gunfire. Only one Deputy had a shield. They created a "fatal funnel" by stacking up inside the rear door. Six Deputies land on top of the suspect trying to handcuff him when it only required the Deputy with the shield, who deployed it correctly and one other to effect the arrest. The suspect was already incapacitated from the gunshots he sustained. Two arms, one set of handcuffs, six Deputies. My reply does not minimize your kuddos. I respect your comment....

@@barryallen6293 May come as a shock to you but when someone running at you with a knife after he injured another officer you tend not to fire a bullet then wait and see🙄. In combat you stop firing after the other persons down and which point you secure them. Little reality for you, to cover 21 feet takes about 1.5 sec to 3 sec depending on the person. In your world where you fire a shot and wait to see if they go down your likely dead of injured or worse others with you are. He did precisely what he needed to which was aim for center mass and try and hit no vital areas. He took down the person without killing him, ended the conflict which removed the risk to himself, the officer and civilians.
@NoodleBoy101
@NoodleBoy101 Жыл бұрын
@@magnus33john I agree with every thing you said except one statement. _"He did precisely what he needed to which was aim for center mass and try and hit no vital areas"._ Actually, officers aim for center mass because its where your vital organs are, thus you are more likely to collapse and die vs being shot in the hip, legs and arms. So it's actually the counter opposite to your statement.
@magnus33john
@magnus33john Жыл бұрын
@@NoodleBoy101 Actually no that's not why they do. Officers and military are taught to aim for center mass for a more basic reason. Every instructor will tell you the same thing and its aim for center mass because it's a bigger target and easier to hit. Not for any other reason and if you follow your own logic, it falls apart easily. The most vital organ in the body is the one between the ears and not in the chest. You hit someone in the head they go down, but you can hit someone in the center and still miss anything vital. People want to put some hidden meaning behind it but it just simply it's a bigger target and easier to hit.

I would say most emotionally disturbed individuals will have a distorted view on what is going on. Who is on their side, and how quickly that can change even when dealing with their own family. Developing trust and conversation can go along way but at some point action needs to take place. Emergency Responders hope they can talk people out, surround and call out is a normal tactic. The parents in the home complicates this greatly.

-In the United States police officers at taught that, in any case where it is necessary to shoot, you must without exception shoot to kill. The rationale for this policy seems sound unless you have lived, as I have, in a country where police officers are taught to shoot to wound before resorting to shooting to kill, and, in reality, it works, In this case at least two lives were saved: 1) the life of the mentally ill man, and that of the police officer whose life would be ruined if he had shot the man when there was enough time to try wounding him for first. It could realistically have saved more lives because the high number of unnecessary police killings could conceivably create animosity toward the police and more criminality. rather than gratitude for the essential role of the police in preserving the peace.

Because he was holed up in his parents’ house, it became something of a hostage situation when they called for help and Michael was not compliant.
