Mike Polk Jr. has some thoughts on Burke Lakefront Airport and its future in Cleveland

Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland is 450 acres of prime lakefront property primarily used as a landing strip for big-time rappers who have a show at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, but don’t care to travel through Brook Park.
I’m exaggerating a bit of course, but not very much.
The city recently announced that it's commissioned yet another study to determine what should be done with Cleveland’s sparsely-used downtown airport that serves as a relief valve of sorts to Cleveland Hopkins, located just 14 miles away.
To be fair, Burke still does have its uses. Though it continues to experience yearly decreases in takeoffs and landings, businesses and hospitals appreciate the airport’s easy access and convenient location.
But is that enough to justify monopolizing so much of our valuable downtown real estate?
That’s up for this new commission to determine. And in case they’re watching, as I assume they are, I have a few ideas myself regarding how this space could be better utilized.

City leaders needs to create something that would be beneficial for Cleveland residents and visitors. My idea would be to use part of the airport and create it into a walkway/bikeway lakefront park connecting the East Side and the West Side into downtown Cleveland

Let’s not forget that there is a big flight school at Burke lake front and no one mentioned that Burke lakefront has a big flight museum open to the public along with the fact that the air show helps out the Cleveland economy a lot and that by removing this airport it makes Cleveland less appealing to performers and groups who would normally fly into Burke my vote it that they remove the runway that is closest to the water and keep the other that way planes can still land there and people still get a whole 1000 wide and 3 mile long strip to do what ever they want with and we can keep the economy benefits.On top of all of this this would make for a cool tourist attraction a beach with air planes flying over.

I miss Ultimate Air Shuttle from Cincinnati’s Lunken Airport and back. Unfortunately Covid ended that. It was about 45 minute flight. None of the crap going through Columbus or road construction. Oh well. I hope something works out for all and not just for a select few.

Sadly seeing a lot of this, you know it's being debated by non pilots. BKL is an extremely easy, comfortable, and fast for small planes. Trying to put a Cessna 172 or Bonanza at Hopkins, LOL.

This number is available. Just a quick search on FAA. Burke is expensive to land and park. Less expensive airport could generate more revenue. Safety enhancements could also generate more traffic.
