WL12 V Set transfer, 17/12/22

X54 and 42101 lead train number WL12, a transfer of 12 V Set carriages from Mount Victoria to Flemington Maintenance Centre, wrong road through Springwood on Saturday 17 December 2022.
Early in the morning of 14 December 2022, a single axle of a container flat on QUBE train 8114 derailed at Lawson. The train continued for a further 10km to Linden, causing damage the Up Main, including damaged points, broken rails, thousands of cracked sleepers, broken and dislodged Pandrol clips, signalling and electrical leads and transponders. As a result, the Up Main has been closed between Katoomba and Springwood (approximately 30km) while the damage is assessed and repaired. Freight and long-distance passenger services continue to operate via the Down Main in both directions, while interurban passenger services have been replaced by buses between Springwood and Katoomba. The Up Main is not expected to reopen until 6 January 2023.
