WLHVFD 1988 Seagrave Engine 482 Takeoff 6v92

Listen to her stop ( 0:11 ) at the light and then @ 0:29 takeoff!
This unit burned to a crisp and is out of service:
On 4/6/15 about 5:20pm Engine 282 (formerly 482) was dispatched 4th due on the box alarm to the 8700 Blk of Ashwood Dr in Capital Heights Maryland. Units arrived to find over 6 autos and lots of roofing materials on fire outside, but getting close to buildings. Command had Engine 282 taking a flanking position next door to get lines on the fire extending back and close to the buildings.
At at some point propane cylinders started exploding and then roofing tar that was on fire came rolling over like fast moving lava toward two fire engines without time to move or escape. The wagon driver tried to back the wagon out, but the smoke and flames would not let him back up far enough and Engine 282 became engulfed in flames.
This is incident went to three alarms and involved a few small buildings but the main business was saved.

@@joshuafuller9301 yep it was bizarre but yea felt good hearing that old beast scream up and around my road. Definitely a early 80s truck. Classic tires and all. It also was a nice day. I’m assuming it was for somebodies birthday probably that lived down the road for me I probably don’t even know them. Possibly a older gentleman

Both...It is "reserve" for a 2001 unit that has frequent breakdowns. This has mid 30k miles on it so it's not really active but it is usually the full time unit. For the past two months it has been reserve. I have noticed that when it's cooler out this is the main unit. Check out my other videos of it. I actually miss a lot of the calls. I've been hearing her sing for the past 10 yrs.

Most of the stations in East zone Allegheny county Pennsylvania, even the one I was at still use the 6v92ta and 8v92ta and some 60 series with a few ctc 6 8.3s/ISC and M11's/ISM's

Seagraves were the best, They were more straight shift trasmisson up to the 80's then they put automatic transmission in, But always had that loud good Detroit diesel engine.

0:29, Acceleration starts, first Gear 0:33, Torque converter locks up. Still in first gear but engine and transmission are locked together 0:36, Shifts into second gear 0:41 Shifts into third gear with some kind of slipping

It's around but they seldom use it. The video from inside that I got sucked because the engine is too loud! It was a lot of static. It runs calls but not as much as it used to. The county has a lot of these that are quieter and as reserve engines.

Iam used to the Crown fire engines equipped with the Detroits the town that I grew up in had back in the late 60's as a matter of fact, the department still has one that is fully restored but it's usually only used for parades and funerals although they do use it on runs occasionally.

Agreed, our neighboring city has 2 trucks a little newer than this that they are phasing out. 2 96 Sutphens with 8V92s. They both sounded awesome although I think one has more character than another. I have them both on my KZbin from what I managed to catch. E-4 my favorite is in reserve until 2025 they are selling it then, its sister E-5 is sitting outside at dpw with a charger on it. They got a brand new engine last year where 4 was stationed as the spare, that truck became the new engine 2, and the old engine 2 became 5. It's a sad day for me!@@9751asd

You pay a heavy fuel penalty for all that noise. Cheap fuel must be why America used them for nearly every commercial vehicle and other countries didn't.

The basic design of the 2-stroke Detroits goes back to WWII and there was quite a bit of modularity, so parts were readily available. They were also untouchable when it came to specific power, giving you more bang for your buck, so to speak. Yes you certainly do pay for it with fuel economy and emissions, but those weren't really considered major concerns until about 30 years ago.
