Great video Mikael. Those wl toys cars do look good for the money. The buggy could do with better tyres to get the power onto the ground. I enjoyed the jump compilation. You really bashed the heck out of those cars. Looked like you were getting some good control in the air with the Traxxas. I know it does feel good when you get it just right. I can't remember if I told you but since the fire I got a HPI Firestorm Flux. Really nice handling and simple 2wd fun. Bit like a Tamiya Blitzer but tougher. I haven't broken it yet. Would recommend. Will be a video of it once I get more sorted and have a pc to edit with 😀
@NordicRC6 жыл бұрын
Good to hear you got a working RC to enjoy in the midst of all the tragedy, Pete! I remember watching a lot of videos with The Firestom at some point. Looks good and handles good. And the flux’s always look fast. Would love to see it in action. Hope you will get some from the insurance to help build up your hobby room again. Yeah, it does feel good when you get the jump right. I do not jump my Tamiyas much, and since those are the ones I do more running time with, I barely get any practice. This time I really didn’t improve, because of switching between two cars all the time. But I remember another time when I was at this location with the MERV only, and the more jumps, the more better landings. Once you start getting into the rythm and the feel for the particular car, it gets easier and easier. Really fun actually. With practice, the MERV provides good air control. The WLToys weighs too little for long jumps and just spins and flips around in the air randomly :-)

Wow, you're really launching them. You almost did a back flip with that buggy.

Best upgrade...put the a979b tyres on the a959b tyres and see how it emerges with the speed
@NordicRC5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the gear ratio changes with bigger wheels/tires. But basically a A959 with A979-wheels/tires is a A979. At least when it comes down to performance. And I personally found that the A979-B is much more un-controllable at high speed (because of the higher center of gravity and the tires).

I'm pretty sure the way those 2s lipos we're hooked up would give you a longer runtime, not more power, that's how it is with any other type of battery, not sure about lipo
@NordicRC5 жыл бұрын
No, it actually gives more power (not voltage but more amps) with more mah too. I thought it was weird the first times I tried it out, as the general rule is that parallel (+mah) gives you run time and series (+volt) gives you power. But +mah gives additional power too, if the ESC and motor allows it (a 60A ESC cannot draw more than 60A for an example). You know the c-rating (discharge rate) is important? Well, the mah works together with the c-rating. For an example if you have a 25C battery with 2,2A (2200 mah) it can deliver max. 55A (25x2,2). If you have a 25C battery with 4,4A (4400 mah) it will give you a max. of 110A (25x4,4). I learned that this year here on youtube :-)
@RobertNES8165 жыл бұрын
@@NordicRC Think of it this way. More Amperage will give you more tourque output and more voltage will give you more speed. The Higher capacity will be able to sustain the amp draw of the motor for a longer time thus allowing it to be "fed" the power its trying to draw. With a lower capacity battery the motor is being choked a bit.
@SlyNine5 жыл бұрын
Power is power. No matter how you get there. But running a battery past is C rating is hard on them. Take horsepower vs torque. This is a worthless comparison because torque is a function of hp.

I have the A959B which is broken for 8 months but i am rebuildng it soon because i mis it! the parts are cheap and there are many aftermarket parts. I think the A959B gets more stable if u go with 7mm to 12mm wheel adapters so u can fit bigger more grippier wheels, upgrade the shocks with better one that you can fill wil shockoil, replace the stock gears with metal ones.

Sounds like very good upgrades! I have thought about upgrading to 12 mm hex. Got some very grippy Louise E-Rocket tires/wheels I would love to try out on this one. The stock shocks can actually be refillens with oil (got a video about that too). Problem is the small screw-head-piston. Didn’t work with soft/medium oil. Might try a very, very hard oil in a later video. But yeah, best thing would be to just get some new ones, with better pistons and maybe a larger shock body for more capacity of oil. i have a mini e-revo too but i know how to use it you're supposed to lower it down so it doesn't flip over while cornering, try it
@NordicRC6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip but I have tried it (check out my other vids). It’s as low as you can get without loosing too much ground clearence. This time I wanted to try something else. Tightening the springs. Some said it would work but pretty much the same result. It’s a known fact that the e-revo flips easily, even with other shocks, other oil etc. One just have to learn to drive it. I haven’t yet. It’s not my everyday runner. But still fun :-)

It's raining cars!!! Great video editing with the landings after the jumps. And of course thanks for the interesting video. I would get all of them indeed but... It's not raining money!

Thank you very much for the nice feedback! He he. Yeah, luckily I got the WLToys, free for review. That’s the only way I can make it raining cars since it, sadly, isn’t raining money here either :-)

If you lower the merv it is actually nice to drive.
@NordicRC4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this was just a test tightening the springs. Just made it worse. But I find that even with the sloppy suspension it rolls over a lot. Maybe some harder oil would help. But never said it wasn’t fun to drive either way. Just has to get used to soft turns.

The mini e revo is definitely a better basher it's more durable then the wltoys a959b. I own the wltoys a959b its fast but not that durable I've broke diffs, stripped screws, drive shafts and a esc so far not good for the 7 times I've used it. Also it's not that easy to find replacement parts.

I like them both. But yeah, maybe you are right, although my own A959-B has held up quite good. Broken more on my e-revo 😅

Your suspension is way to still on the erevo. With the stock springs it should be lower and lean into turns.
@NordicRC5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this was actually just a test, tightening the springs, to see if it would help. But yes, it didn’t help at all cause the ride height was raised so much. But it’s the same problem with the springs more lose (check out my other videos with it). Basically it’s a common problem with it that I have seen in many tests/reviews. Some have improved it with harder oil but I guess this model also just requires ‘getting used to it’ and softening up the turns.

Hello. Modern American full size "Monster Trucks" suspension is yet to be built by any r/c hobby vehicle. The full scale vehicles use swing axle suspension on both ends of the truck, with sets of 5 Nitrogen shock absorbers for each wheel. Current jump is 204 feet I believe. So Traxxas and all the others have lagged behind full scale vehicle technology. BTW, I love those Nordic athlete women. In the lodge, 'apres ski?" Cheers, from North Texas, U.S.A.
@NordicRC5 жыл бұрын
Hi Aye! Interesting to know that they use swing axle suspension. Wonder if that is the same as the old swing axle suspension that Tamiya used back in the days for some of their models. Uhh, ‘apres ski’, not sure what that means.

I just ordered the A959B. Kinda excited to drive it. But I do wish Traxxas would make a LaTrax 1/18 sized 4x4 buggy with the stinger 20 turn motor. That would be pretty crazy! Also it seems allot of the LaTrax models are out of stock, Is Traxxas discontinuing the line?

Ahhh, you are right, but the idea wasn’t really to make a fair or serious comparison. Just some fun and I was curious to see which one was fastest 🙂 Other than that these two really are so different that a serious comparison is pointless.

@borgfpv84185 жыл бұрын
I have both! There is no comparison between them. Merv is much better and so much more expensive. The 2s batteries in parallel does not increase the power only the autonomy but the car gets heavier, I use a 3s for fast runs and then makes the difference, the Merv goes over 70km / h. The Merv gives you air control, especially when you change tires for the Proline Badlands (the Wltoys is impossible to have any control I. Air). Here's what you can do on a skate park with him: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXXHlHmgdqqGgrM I've done countless upgrades on Merv and it's still one of my favorite cars. Wltoys plastic gears are a weak point. Besides, his giant engine is incontroable. Wltoys was good for me for putting me in the hobby ...
@NordicRC5 жыл бұрын
Nice you got them both. Yeah, with some practice (more than me) one can get good air control with the MERV. Yes, the voltage stays the same, but no, the amps will increase when you put them in parallel. Hence, if you have a motor/ESC capable of using that extra amps, it will gain a little in ‘power’ ... more acceleration and top speed. Not much, but the difference with the MERV is very noticable.

I have both and the erevo is much tougher, barely ever breaks. The wltoys is fun but the diff sucks on it and keeps breaking. I tried to lock the diffs on it and it's hard to control now, just sits on the shelf.
@NordicRC6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, not broken my mini e-revo at all yet. Too bad about the WLToys diffs. Maybe it was the version before the current one? I believe this one has metal gears. The gears and diffs definitly work fine still on this one. Maybe you could get some cheap new metal diffs for yours and get it running again.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware of the metal diffs. I'll definitely pick them up since driving the wltoys a959-b is so fun. It's a little rocket. Too bad the metal diffs are $28 for 2, making this cheap car a little more expensive but worth it to get back on road.
