I've always thought about this match...it was played just 6 days after Berlin Wall Fall and I've always questioned whether East Germany players have not been conditioned psychologically by those events or even if they actually played at their best on the occasion. Maybe they didn't want to qualify to the World Cup at all: an East German football side at the World Cup could have been in fact an emotion source on which East German authorities could have likely relied on to make their country surv

Apparently this was the only match where DDR used that absolutely iconic Adidas jersey (obviously famously worn by Holland, USSR and West Germany in different colourways)? If so, what an occasion: the last competitive match for the DDR, a week after the fall of the Wall.

Wäre in der DDR zu der Zeit politisch nicht so grundlegendes passiert, hätten die sich nicht so auseinandernehmen lassen. Die Spieler hatten die Gedanken nicht auf dem Platz.

Schöne Zeit aber Sportlich nicht gut.....für mich OSSI und DDR Treuer....grins
