It's a shame this is the only recording of WMAQ's dominance in the 1960's. Floyd Kalber had the highest ratings, ever.

Just chatted with my dad about this storm. I survived it at the age of about 1 years old...lol His story was a different matter though, as he was trying to get home from work on Torrence Ave and got hammered. He finally had to stop at about 147th street from the roads just being jammed up with abandoned cars. He made his way to some little store that had a back garage type area and along with 4 or 5 others, they had to sleep on the floor of this dank and dirty garage. The next day they made up some eggs and saw them on their way. He still wasn't able to get home that day though with the blizzard still raging and nothing plowed. He was able to get into a hotel that night and the next day started walking south until he reached 159th. Then he walked west until his brother was able to get out and meet him and pick him up. Together, they made it over to Kedzie where he was able to walk the next 1/2 mile home. What a story and what an adventure. This was about 20 miles between work and home I guess. He must have walked about 5 of it through deep snow without proper winter attire. The shit we do when we're young...lol The funny thing was that he was trying to rush home that first night to watch Star Trek (on a Thursday night). He still remembers being pissed off because he missed Star Trek that night...lol RIP Leonard Nimoy...died today of COPD. He will indeed be missed.

I think that was Del Clark who was a booth announcer and did the news for the John Doremus Patterns in Music Show.

Looks like you forgot the actual open. This open was cold. Last time I saw this broadcast I think it went to commercial after the open. BTW that's Del Clark as announcer.

Note that this is *_not_* the big blizzard of January 26, 1967. This broadcast was from February 23, 1967, when six inches of snow fell on Chicago.

@Maxwedge12000 Yes I was lucky to be one of them at 9 year's old. I was in Batemen grammer school at that time & was so happy to be off for a week or 2 just to get my sled & go sledding from the top of the hill at Horner Park. Man those were good days! :)

@Maxwedge12000 I saw that Horner Park where I played as a child had a tall black iron gate surrounding it? Was not like that when I was a child in the 60s? There was no such thing as playdates. We use to meet each other at the theaters & check out the newest Godzilla flick. It is a meaner world now & kids must be watched. We were the fortunate ones who lived & played at a more fortunate time. Hopefully things will get better. BUt it won't! :P

@Maxwedge12000 Remember Chicago in the 60s was a different time & safer. I now have a 16 year old daughter & I am happy today's kids have video games & computers to keep them busy. So we could keep an eye on them, We had our generation gap w/our parents that I truly believe that the gap was thicker then todays kids is w/us. It's a whole new world today & not as safe to be running around like it was in our day. The last time I took a trip to Chicago? continue...

Ha. Now (for now) the main roads are plowed and salted like never before. While this works for a 4" snowfall to be a non-event (depending on rate and time of day) 2 million+ people can drive to their sub-urban hellscapes, the salt can just wash down the streams and rivers and kill everything except the "Asian Carp". Progress bitchez.
