My WMD bolt won't hold the carrier up if I stand it on end. Always been told that means I need new gas rings. Is this true for these BCGs as well and if so where can I find new gas rings for it?

I have a FailZero & a WMD & I gotta say I like the WMD better. The finish & machine work is cleaner & it's staying cleaner over time. Also, my FailZero has NibX partially blocking the vent holes & the hole for the ejector pin is clogged & it can't be replaced. I have also noticed many manufacturers got a bit sloppy during the rush & you see more tool marks etc on things made in that time period.

For most shooters PSA and other budget but not to budget bcg’s will be fine if you are wanting something higher quality you will pay more I purchased a Cryptic coatings BCG in mystic Black they are made By Toolcraft I believe but it is the highest quality bcg they make than cryptic works their magic with the coating which is even better than NiB and lasts Longer without wear, Lowers heat etc The price is steep at $289 shipped for a brand new one they do offer blemished for $30 less
@jayonez136 жыл бұрын
Of course you oil the BCG. The point of nickel boron is if you run dry it's more reliable and cleans up easier. But of course you need oil

I have ran several brands and all need lube if not they will turn dark scorched looking and ruin The coating. WMD is now my only choice they got the perfection and Durability correct. The hole you are describing as a oil hole is a gas pressure release port hole you can watch in slow motion video the gasses escape though them as it cycles.

im with rusty on this, i put an average of 500 to 1000 rounds through my rifle each tim i go to the range. thats about 1 time a month sometimes 2 times. i dont take every firearm everytime i go, normally 1 or 2 rifles and 1 or 2 handguns. each of which i take at least 500 rounds each.
@floridaredfishin82099 жыл бұрын
Uhm, you're supposed to use oil with these. Just a small amount. If you don't use oil, over time of non use the bolt carrier will lock up the gun, and take a damn mallet to get it in to battery. ALWAYS use a small amount of lube on any bolt carrier group.

The reason there are tooling marks on nib bcg's is because that particular type of coating doesnt fill in cracks like the finish on a typical bcg
@asymsolutions6 жыл бұрын
That's not how nickel boron works...it "grows" as applied to a surface in microscopic columns with gaps, this means that the actual area of contact between the two surfaces is greatly reduced giving that smooth feel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alkaline_electroless_nickel_boron_coating

All three of these companies do not make the BCGs...WMD and Fail-zero are finishing companies...PSA are finished by either WMD or Fail-zero...I only use WMD or carriers that I know WMD did the finish job on as they are the best.Also use a WMD Nib coated upper receiver....Fail-zero does a pretty good job also...The WMD guys used to work for Fail-zero...I have several thousand rounds through my WMD and have never used lube...I use some Rem oil to clean with but other than that no lube...Never have had a problem of any kind...With my David Tubb buffer spring and the WMD BCG I can put all the brass into a bucket ...

@wrightconnection22047 жыл бұрын
I've heard that the Nickel Boron finish actually has tiny bumps on the surface kind of like taste buds on your tongue giving it less surface area to make contact on your upper receiver that gives it the slick feeling. Like you, I like my WMD over my Spikes Tactical. Good video, thanks for making it!

@jshphysicistatyahoo8 жыл бұрын
Not a fair comparison. You put one thousand plus rounds through the FZ, but only a magazine through the WMD. That is one and a half orders of magnitude!! Furthermore, it is not clear if the FZ came in black originally, or did it wind up all burnt looking like that over time, possibly because You did not lube it? (Yes! I heard You say it is supposed to be run dry. But that just sounds stupid to me. It is like a dare. Not a maintenance tip.) I have no preference, really. I'm shopping for my first AR15 and only have the stripped lower and upper. Anyway, I agree the WMD looks the sharpest from other pics I examined, though really, what do pics tell You? Truth is I'm a fool and I don't know whom to trust.

That Fail Zero BCG is not right... must be a factory blem. Looks almost un-coated and unfinished... I'd contact them and I bet they send out a new one ASAP. IMHO, Fail Zero makes the best NiB BCG, so that POS you have is a disgrace... but shit happens to every manufacturer, so I doubt they will change their name to Fail Once! ;-) BTW: Definitely want to keep the gas rings lubed... and some lube on the whole thing will not hurt... I use Slick50 or Frog Lube. Skoal!

Not saying that is the tough part. The expense is what I was referring too. THat is almost a 1000 dollars a month for a year. Yes it can bee done but a lot of disposable income I guess
@OmarReyes797 жыл бұрын
Its possible he spent 200 a month for 5 years. He never stated the age of his oldest AR nor the frequency in which he has 1,000 round weekends. One thing to note, there are some tactical shooting courses that require you to bring 1,000 rounds for the training. Its not unreasonable to go through 1,000 rounds in a weekend.
