2:02 Love the women in the blue top. A fecking helicopter is about to take off in the street and she walks by like it's a van waiting at a red light, priceless.

Nice catch there! These guys are true heroes and highly skilled to land/take off in such small spaces. Often a Air Ambulance has landed near to me, but for some strange reason, I don't have any footage! Only of ones flying low.

to add on, this video camera takes very little frames per seconds and is not a high speed camera therefore the blades are slow (they only look slow)

Unfortunately the Air Ambulance is un-paid for by the Government and therefore relies on donations. (It is for my local Air Ambulance anyway) My local Air Ambulance (Midlands) requires something close to 7m each year to keep running (At least that's what I remember).

Wow - that´s a damned big (and so an expensive) helicopter for an air ambulance, but great for the medicals to work in it (because it never can be too much space for them, but sometimes sure to less space in others.) Here in Germany, the Eurocopter is the 1st choice for (the most) air rescues - and also this one is all other than small, but this AgustaWestland (?) offers sure more space inside than the Eurocopter's. In every case a great video for a fan like me who is also very interested in the use of rescue helicopters in other countries than the own! 👍😉👊

Lots of the Air Ambulances in the UK started off with leased helicopters (like this one) rather than owned outright. Then they started to buy EC-135's, EC-145's and MD-900's. But the recent trend has been for them to buy Agusta Westland AW169 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AgustaWestland_AW169) which are much bigger helicopters. Having a larger helicopter means greater range, more space to work for the paramedics and Doctors, better flying ability in bad weather plus they tend to be night capable as well.

@@dogsnads5634 You´re right, it´s the same here in Germany (which I also did not have known so far and only found out after various research). I´ve already watched the German entry on Wikipedia about the *AW 169* (which besides that has a beautiful styling that I like very much). The *MD 902 Explorer* with the NOTAR system (without tail rotor) is a great heli, too - and according to reports much more silent than conventional helicopters, because the tail rotor is a major contributor to the noise development (also something that I didn't know - up to now). And where nothing (open) turns there is also no potential hazard from contact with objects or even people. But I have read the *MD 900 / 902* are too expensive and the support must have been a disaster (clearly the result of fatal mismanagement), and because of that, the ending of the leasing contracts with the few (test-) MD´s was the 1st and simultaneously the last using of these great machines. For a fan of helicopters like me, of course, extremely sad, because so I will probably never hear or see one in person. 😕

dangerous operation! see the woman at 2.00. She didn't know the tail rotor risk.

That's so amazing! The rotors are barely even turning, and yet it can fly...way to go you guys! Amazing pilot skills. I guess it's the small rotor in back that's giving it the lift

😂👍 it's special low RPM rotor. Used only at emergency helicopters. Much quieter than normal rotor. 😜

The rotors are turning much faster than you realize. Not sure if you are aware, but the reason it appears they are barely turning is due to the way camera affects the blade speed.

I believe that these guys are true hero's. I think it is totally wrong that there is no financial support from the government to support this essential service and it is put on the various air ambulance services to fundraise every penny.

Sack a few managers. There are more managers in the NHS than Doctors and they are rarely accountable for anything which helps patient care. Do this and we could afford more doctors and more air ambulances services.

Here in Scotland the Air Ambulance service is mostly funded from the Scottish Ambulance Service. We're quite close to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary here and we often see helicopters going over (very low, almost tyre marks on the roof stuff..!) are heading in from the offshore rigs and are usually the same aircraft that transport crews to the rigs normally rather than dedicated Air Ambulances.

Some nice flying by aircrew, that does not look like a small helicopter and it takes some major skill to fit into that space. Also, the woman at 2.00 is an idiot, surprised to police did not block that road but even so not a smart place to wander..

They should also use No-tars because they land in urban environments. This would make it safer and prevent rear rotor damage.
@theSR4N
@theSR4N 7 жыл бұрын
Even with no rear rotor they need clearance of the tail and would likely crash if the tail hit anything so theres no point in paying millions to swap out the helis.

NOTAR is only available on the MD902 for HEMS, which is very expensive and are rare. They are also problematic for parts due to their rarity and are a dying breed on the UK - already gone for Police and very few left in HEMS
