First off, let me just say both women are HELLA HELLA Beautiful, over 40 or not. Second, I so LOVE LOVE the infamous 96' Squad. That was the first time I'd EVER payed close attention to the Olympics PERIOD...mostly bc I was in middle school lol. I am VERY fortunate to have seen both Dawn and Sheryl set the example for players/coaches like myself. Seeing the 96' Squad do what they did, not just winning the GOLD but truly being trend setters for high standards in basketball; this was the 1st time I'd EVER seen women be truly authentic, discipline, focused and passionate in our game and for our game. This introduction gave me a clear concised direction in what I wanted to BE in life. So many women are taught to just go to school, afterwards go to work and raise a family. Well, nothing wrong with that for those that desire it, however I always wanted something more. I found great strength in seeing those strong women doing unconventional things that some still deem conventional for men. No matter the criticism, the women of the 96' Squad fought, sacrificed and achieved success; not just for themselves but for the benefit of women present, past and future. I am sooo happy that these women are receiving their due. More than WELL DESERVED! My hope for US that follow after their leadership is to do the same. Impact lives of others by aspiring hope, selflessness and legacy. ✌🏾❤#muchluv2ya'll #96'forever2thee #givehonorwhereitsdue #theypavedtheway #withoutthemthereisnome

Sis you got me in tears right now. I could not agreed with you more. It was bless to watch these 2 play. I do wish Dawn and Comets could have one the last WNBA when she went to Houston to play. It's so easy to just want the best for our race and our sisters. The outside really don't know or understand our struggles to get to where we are. Dawn is my icon an goat b/c she not just stand for basketball she she stand for the working class people. I do get on the defensive side when I hear the nasty things men say about women basketball. The is mostly the bm that are talking about the bw. We are all one race when one takes a hit. Damn we all take that hit. I got the chance to watch Dawn coach while at Temple, have not got the chance at SC yet but will.

I was soooo in love with Sheryl Swoopes and it broke my heart when she crossed over to the other side. Not that she would have wanted my 5'8" self anyway, but I did love you Sheryl soooo much.

I love that 96 Squad. I loved how they took women’s basketball on their backs and push the sport forward. I watched all of them in college and followed the sport closely. I remember in my senior year in high school 88’ and my economics teacher asked me what am I gonna do after high school and college. I said play ball. He said there’s nothing after college and i said there will be a pro league in the states because i didn’t want to go over seas. He told me i was crazy for even thinking that. I said it with confidence. And after the 96 Olympics, there came the WNBA in 97. I’m wondering what my economics teacher said when that happened. Needless to say I didn’t go out for the team at that time but never stop following women’s basketball. I use basketball concepts, plays, everything about basketball and how the WNBA evolved, applied it to life and that’s why basketball will always be close to my heart. It helped me get to where I am today. The trials and tribulations that women’s basketball have gone through and still standing in amazing fashion. #WBB #96squad #WNBA #96Olympics #NYWBB

Another fantastic show! Smart, authentic athletes talking about the sport they love at which they excelled. And funny. So funny! Watching Coach Staley laugh and laugh and laugh as Sheryl Swoopes talks about skipping Coach Tara VanDerveer's running workout was unreal. Good stuff. This is an excellent podcast for so many reasons. Kudos!

@@Ebonynini a few of the 96 squad were Euroleague veterans combined with the talent and tenacity of the then younger players dominated the over hyped Australian and Brazil teams.
@Ebonynini
@Ebonynini 2 жыл бұрын
@@mr.ronaldlawrence1231 yeah I’m aware. Some also got an opportunity to play in the US in the ABL and then WNBA. And Brazilian team from 96’ also played against the US squad in 98’ Exhibition. Dawn even spent time in Brazil playing for international experience when she was wrongfully cut in 92’ Olympics trial. And the Australien team had talents like Lauren Jackson, Michelle Timms and Sandy Brondello. Yeah I know it was a lot of raw talent coming from those team and even China.

I just wanted play the game…scrimmages or games I’m dialed in but those practice 😩. Even down to the eating whatever…I’mma burn that off. Lol

I was torn between Swoopes jersey or Spoon jersey when the Comets came to NY. It was hard but being court side, I had to go with Spoon because they would have thrown me out of MSG for sure. New Yorkers are very serious with their sports team.

Black people can't be happy about shit in this day in time. When I hear Dawn come up, damn if some white person got to bring up Geno (uconn). Damn the subject is about Dawn not Geno. I saw this year how Kim the LSu coach threw a damn fit. IF that was Dawn that shit would have been all over the news nation wide. We love the black women and we love Dawn Staley. I have never seen people give this hate towards Dawn. She has done so much for the game and people.

Dawn is one of the most unethical coaches in the game, right along with Geno. One of these days the NCAA will release findings, and at least one of her championships as a coach may possibly be taken away. Dawn is one of the creepiest looking coaches. She looks like a freaky cartoon character that got run over by a semi. Her favorite part of the game is drooling over watching her players in the showers.

You’re are so correct. If tables were turn, the media would have had a field day for real and then it would have trickled down to the WNBA. Coach Dawn is such a class act, I love her and all my black women doing their thing. God bless you Dawn and Sheryl. Keep up the great work.

1st & foremost much respect & love 2 Dawn Staley BUT I'm not happy 4 no1 I don't want 2 c nothing blue right now ! I do agree that our team isn't playing disciplined basketball. The 4th qtr isn't the only problem though it's execution toughness desire & wanting 2 win the game more than our opponent. Far as that last sequence with kentucky ...we've got 2 have better court awareness ...with 11.1 secs left 3 fouls 2 give...we've got 2 foul in that scenario & not let them have a wide open 3 ! But enough of that it's over with & there's nothing 2 do but learn from it or else we'll b exiting early again. But even with all that said I'm a #GamecockWBB #FAM thru & thru I appreciate Dawn Staley's great leadership & the character of our young ladies besides bn talented players. I digress this is 1 of my fav episodes w/ 2 of my favz / greatest of all time ~Sheryl Swoopes & Dwan Staley in a meaningful funny fascinating dialogue between 2 friends. *(I love Dawn Staley 4 just the idea of sayin' Brea Beal deserves 2 have an award 4 her significance & consistent contribution 2 the #GamecockWBB; that's why sheez the best.)

I hated the fact that you gave Bill Clinton so many props because he and his wife are truly part of one of the wickedest organizations EVER. HOWEVER, I'm from VA I arrived at UVA in 1995 and I always loved your grit and skill. I can say you kinda made amends with me by having Swoops on here. You two are two of the best to ever do this thing. But Please Dawn become more aware of these people.
