Hello Ellis, just a note to say, I love what you're doing with Old Radio Airchecks of New York City radio personalities. There's folks out there who appreciate your love of the "Good Ole Days Of Radio." Quickly, I had the opportunity to meet Murray at Columbia University in 1971 when I was part of a panel of speakers talking about NYC Radio. Others on the panel were the likes of Dan Ingram, "Cousin" Bruce Morrow, Allison Steele, Murray The K and myself, Walt "Baby" Love. What an honor it was for me because I was a new talent on the radio in NYC at that time, fresh in from CKLW, Winsor, Canada. Thank you for allowing us to remember Good Times!! WBL

Hi Walt! I'm glad you are enjoying the airchecks. I've been recording radio stations since before I started my radio career. In fact, you were one of my inspirations to get into broadcasting, from your days back in New York. I didn't know if I could do it, or even be accepted. I figured if you could do it, I could too! I've managed to spend 43 years on the air, doing everything from Top 40, to all news, to Country, to Oldies, and today Contemporary Christian. I even ran "The Countdown" at one of my early gigs. Thank you for being an inspiration when I was a teenager, thinking I could not do this. By the way, If you have any of your aircheck tapes, on cassette or reel to reel, I'd be honored to preserve them right here!

wowww. I remember going to the Brooklyn Fox theater to see live rock and roll shows. If you got to the theater early enough, you'd get a 33rpm album. I still have some of those albums. Murray the K got me through my teenage years. Rest in peace Murray

My older sister took me to the Brooklyn Fox theater Easter week to a Murray the K show. As we stood on line to get in they passed out copies of his previous show on KFM records. Then, after the show we stayed, watched a nature film and saw the entire show..again! 😃

Just look at that lineup at 5:00, WOW! I have a miniature copy of that poster, it came with a Blues Project CD. When I was 14 I used to go to Murray's Brooklyn Fox shows, my uncle was a detective in NYC and he used to get me and a couple of friends in for free! We'd get seats near the front of the stage which would rise several feet, you'd have to look up to see the performing acts. I wish that I held on to the albums from those shows.

He also DJed on one of, if not, the greatest radio stations of all time, WHFS-FM, Bethesda Maryland in the mid seventies.

Ellis: Murry was on CHUM-FM, not 10-50 Chum IIRC. And LOST FACT Murray worked on WLIR-FM Garden City in the progressive rock era. And WMCA NYC too.

Does anyone remember Meazurry's Z language? I still remember it to this day. My friends and I used to speak it when our parents were around because of course we didn't want them to know what we were planning. 😄

It was a way of talking that Antebellum slaves used to use to prevent their masters from knowing what they were talking about.

Before the days of the computer there was radio. AM radio then FM radio. The DJs had personalities. Murray the K, Rosko, Alison Steele, etc. Those days are long gone and the music business does not resemble what it used to be. Like TV, today’s radio is nothing like it used to be. Today radio is essentially a waste land with broadcasters who lack a personality.

How's about this for an idea, especially when the aircheck is from the Top 40 vintage era - the sound for the bell icon be a chime time sounder?
