I joined a curling team once in junior high school, vaguely knowing that it involved ice only since it occupied what would otherwise be a good hockey rink. The main attraction was that i'd get out of school 45 minutes early to practice. What I learned is that it is much harder than it seems. At the time, I put up with the hour of practice, knowing I had brought my skates and would be on the adjacent hockey rink immediately after we were done. But I wish I had put more into it. It's a cool and nuanced game. The release shown is really impressive!

Vigorous scrubbing in front of the stone (which they can't touch) can make it travel father. Scrubbing to just one side can steer the stone's path. Overall, it's kind of_ like shuffleboard on ice. Curling is heavy on good-sportsmanship which, in my mind is like a zen approach. It's pretty cool.
