Fire, EMS service offers free housing to recruit college students

My ems department on Long Island NY does this and I’m apart of the problem. My college dorms got flooded closing down 2 buildings and leaving myself and a ton of others to triple up in double dorms or commute 50 miles everyday but the ems program really came in clutch especially since I’m pre med and ems helps me gain clinical hours as well!

New York is way behind in this regard. Go down to Maryland and Northern Virginia and places have been doing this for decades.

most people dont want to spend that kind of money to pay firefighters until it is their house on fire then it is to late.

It’s not about tradition, it’s about these towns not being able to afford to be able to buy the newest and best gear or equipment for their firefighters. The fire department has always been shafted when it comes to government spending. Even the FDNY (yeah those guys) have funding troubles when it comes to training/equipment and being able to churn out the best goddamn probys this country’s ever seen.

Or even doing part time would help aswell like 2 people a officer and an engineer who are paid 12:00-12:00 M-F

Why not use those extra rooms to take care of homeless vets. Tax payers should have a say where they're money is being spent.

Taxpayer money was not used at all to buy the house. The fire district used its own money from its members and from fundraisers.

you can use that argument with anything. nobody wants to do it tho. theyd put illegal immigrants there before our vets.
