Lu Bu felt like a Sekiro boss. All the bosses up till you fight Lu Bu had been more like Nioh bosses.

I also did that. Getting him reliably to the second phase solo was fine but it's an endurance test. I chipped in with some damage but was mostly there to keep the other two in the fight. I even died but one of the players resurrected me. Intense.

Repec into Water (Its super easy and costs nothing and you can respec back into what you were before easily) and youll get him everyone. and DONT use any of the NPC summons. Do it alone, it's much easier. Took me like 2 hours. the Frozen Arrow and Ice trap and water dragon basically ensure his spirit bar is almost always cut in half. Which is CRUCIAL. Still tough and you gotta deflect almost every critical attack, but youll beat him! and make sure you have a big weapon that does a ton of damage. At least 300. I used the fang club at 308 damage. This is a DEFENSIVE fight. If you try and get sneaky hits in, you will lose. Over and over. Only attack when you know for SURE it'll be clean and you cant get hit. Youll know when to do it.

Respectfully disagree, apart from the ice magic, I beat him using almost the exact opposite strategy. Using the summons meant I could fight aggressively using dual halberds, rushing him from the side when I knew he was gonna use his bow (his horse always does a little jump just before) meant I could work his HP down while he was distracted, sure you have to parry the critical attacks but he only staggers when he's dismounted and even then it's not like there's much of a payoff compared to pretty much every other enemy. I found playing defensive I was using up all my healing items before he's even down to 50% health and by that point the fight was basically over. Not saying you're wrong either but I personally don't think it's good advice to say there's only one way to win. If like me you've played as an aggressive fighter and aren't the best at deflections you can still beat him with this style. Learn his moves, block if you have to, pick the right windows to attack, use summons and the healing dragon to give him a distraction and some extra dps and definitely learn to deflect his crits. Took me maybe 15-20 attempts but I got there

Lu bu was this game’s version of Genichiro from Sekiro. I had to be super patient with him cause he can combo a lot of his attacks in to critical strikes like his forward stab or his grab attack after his fire leap. I barely managed to beat him and he was enjoyable to fight.

Having now beaten the game I can confirm that this is still my favorite fight in the game. Maybe even of all the Team Ninja games. Can't wait to fight him on the higher difficulty again.^^

I am so appreciative of seeing you work through a boss like this. I see tons of guides of people beating up on a boss and think, "This should be easier than it is. Why am I F'ing it up?!" It's deflating. But when I see you struggle a bit, I realize, "Ok. this is supposed to be hard. Slow down. Have fun". Thank you for sharing your failures as well as the successes!! It makes me feel way more hopeful. I also agree that this is a very hard boss but it's very fair and as maddening as it's been, it's still very fun

Only took me 2 hours to beat Lu Bu.....:) But I loved every moment of it! IMO Easier to do alone. EDIT: That running attack that got CB the first time was the attack I had the most problems with in the beginning!

The running unblockable attack was so hard for me at first. There's a wind up and you have to wait until he's literally right in your face before you deflect. I kept trying to deflect too early cause I expect him to swing from farther away

Lu bu has been by far the toughest challenge for me. After around 30 deaths and respecs just managed to beat him. Need to improve my dodge/parry. I found out reinforcements hindered me. Much easier . Little trick I learned was using ice spear when he fired up his weapon took it off

Lu Bu is the first boss that made me respec and mess with other builds so now I can change battle sets depending on the boss.

For a tip for other players suck on Lu Bu. Don't purposefully put yourself in low spirit, especially -1000. Only use your wizardry after a successful deflect - such as his arrows. Also, keep a good distance when he is on foot. This makes timing his critical blows much easier!

Farming 10 dragons cure powders gives you 16 heals in total. This got me through the fight.

For anyone struggling on Lu, while he's on horse back, try to stay right next to him. He'll do more melee attacks, but they're pretty telegraphed and his ranged attacks go right over your head. For when he's on the ground, just play patient, and never get greedy. He recovers really quickly so any more than 1-2 attacks after he finishes a combo is a big risk.

Honestly, I'd advise the exact opposite! Stay out, parry the arrows and bait out either of the two red critical attacks. Parry the red, and follow up with a single spirit attack. 2-3 of those and he's off the horse!

I’ve heard people compare him to Tree Sentinal from Elden Ring but I feel like it was a challenge in the same way that the Fire Giant was challenging, lots of attacks with huge dmg and always zooming away when you want to attack. Was looking forward to this episode since I struggled with him for a while especially since I never played Nioh or Sekiro and never used parry’s before in any souls-like games, great work!

For anyone that wants a few tips... Being close at all times and deflecting towards his running perilous attack worked for me. After every deflect of his perilous, i used my heavy or y/triangle attack. And companions are almost useless for this fight, so i just went solo. Helps with timing parries.

I'm glad to see you struggle a bit on this fight. Lol This is the first one that gave me real problems. The only thing holding me back was his slam attack. I could not counter it for the life of me. I just couldn't get the timing. I had the entire fight down. Needles to say I finally beat him using Quilong and the vitality spell. No healing pots necessary

Lu Bu is such a good fight, learning the parry timings and perfecting the fight was so satisfying. Funny you mentioned Genichiro, he was the first real git gud moment in Sekiro and I feel like Lu Bu will be the same for many in this game.

All I want to see is cowboy struggle with a boss fight, and I mean really struggle. Not because of some bull crap like the boss one taps you or unreadable moves but just because it’s just that challenging though a perfect craft of health, damage output, techniques, and trump cards. However I also know it’s very hard for game creators to build something like that. So we might never see the day. Edit: A cowboy if you’re reading this, if you have had that in a game and in a episode if you could tell me that would be great

It took me hours...hours! I changed builds, weapons, etc. I went to 35 earth, put on and upgraded flame resit gear and used a upgraded to lvl 4 massive club/hammer. What a fight! It's just patience until he uses his big moves then counter and bonk him lol.

I died for hours against this guy. I switched to the healing dragon and it saved my ass once I finally got him. Also calamity bolts to reduce his damage output helped significantly.

After two hours with this dude, I found strategy which worked for me and would like to share with you guys if it helps. I have used only spell which generates HP on every hit and went all in. Block and hit all the way, very aggressively. If he manages to hit you, you can generate back some health with spell. Outside of this, nothing else worked for me.

So didn't seem like a respec was needed, just perfecting deflects = I win. I'm stuck on this damn boss have respecced full earth with wood seconday but will give this another go just focusing on full defense and perfect deflects I guess. I got full Cao Cao anti fire set on - just grind with Cao Cao. Then die 10 times to get Lu Bu timing then he was easy. Still had 3 pots left when he died :)

This boss.... omg, one MF, but I beat him yesterday, it took me around 1,5 hour. It is big difficulty And I hated every single minute of that fight :D, but now , I start to like it in retrospective. I went with Water build, two swords. It is hard fight, but is more fight of endurance. To the end of fight when Lu Bu start spamming Qi attacks, if you do not deflect perfectly you are doomed. He spammed 4 abilities in a row in the end and I had low health and no flasks. For me it's love/hate feelings for this boss.

i think for boss fights the guardian spirit living weapon version is alot better than the thing where it just attacks once, in my testing its a night and day difference, your living weapon lasts a while, you take almost no hp and spirit damage and you can apply your element for free, which will trigger the skills of your armor if your smart like me and crafted some good stuff on there, which cowboy didnt do i guess, but its the thought that counts 😂

took me over 5 hours to beat that foo, i was scared the whole game knowing theres a 2nd lu bu fight, and glad it wasnt right after the 1st phase, but the whole time i was expecting the 2nd lu booty fight to be even harder, but beat it 1st try, swear this lu bu fight gave me more deaths than every other boss in the game combined. glad im 100% achievements, hope the dlc doesnt come with more crap like this

I think it’s because once you beat this boss, you just have the combat down to the letter. Physically, the second boss fight for Lu bu probably is harder, but you are just so much better at the combat now after the first fight that it seems easier. Or maybe it really is just easier or a combo of both. But after Lu bu first fight I’ve first or second try every boss after, even ones that did feel truly challenging. Liu bei was pretty decently hard too but got him second try

Use rock toughness before fights and you don't have to worry about red attacks taking your morale points.

If you travel to the village mid mission and go back, do you lose all your progress and have to run through again? Been too scared to make the plunge, I only need to do it on the long difficult levels too, like those wanky sewers. At Lu Bu and wanna upgrade my weapon and respec. Will I lose it all?!

No. The game continues you where you left off. There's no lost progress in this game.

I loved this fight! So Great! Reminded me of Sekiro's Genichiro fight. With that said, Lu Bu only took me a few tries due to my time with Sekiro. Just went solo and got the deflections down after a couple drawn out rounds with him.
