In Arma 3 I've landed 2 hits at beyond 4km on 2 seperate occasions, both of which were in the editor shooting against stationary ai. Still proud though lol, if i remember correctly the rifle only zeroed up to 2400m or so

Yeah, I had thought this was going to be setting up a long sniper kill on a public unmodded server, and that the dummy was just the testing stage to prove it was possible. I wonder how long it would take. Might be faster, actually, since you wouldn't have to teleport back to the dummy, just have your friend standing there with lots of food waiting to take the fateful bullet.

Nevertheless, assumptions must be made: - only the frictionless case will be covered - the height of the starting point equals the height of the end point (*) Looking at the total bullet travel we can use the travel height equation (incline throw) with the time t = 6s: y = v0*t*sin(α) -0.5g*t^2 = 0 (*) ⇔ α = arcsin(gt/(2v0) = 2,4° x = v0*t*cos(α) = 4196.3m The maximum height is reached after 3s: y = 0.5g*t^2 = 44.145m The calculated distance is far too high as air resistance has been neglected. The angle and height however will be somewhere near the real value due to the relatively slow velocity (still a 100+ km/h at the start; Brake acceleration due to air resistance is proportional to v^2) . But in the end this calculation still stays inaccurate :D

This give the max theoretical horizontal distance a shot can travel. D = vt+0.5at^2 where D = horizontal distance v = muzzle velocity t = time of flight a = coefficient of negative acceleration due to air resistance Aim horizontal to the ground and shoot from an elevated position so you don't waste energy counteracting gravity. No ballistic calculations needed.

Wobo sez "my shot was drastically effected by starting position, if i was even a screen pixel off it more like 500 pixels when it reached the target" or in other words "sensitive due to initial conditions" as a physicist would say...,, yeah sniping at that distance in real life is pretty technical stuff things such as the Coriolis effect, wind direction and humidity and atmosphere density which can change or move in different directions along the flight path....dam son this video would of been insanely hard. as if it was not hard enough.. with dayZ limited tools for measuring things like that...good stuff WOBO without the time you spent testing to clear up any mis information and teaching us a bit more how dayZ works under the hood
