from eastern Africa(in America) and somewhat agree, i think it's more of not knowing or having experience with citizens of those countries( very few travels.). I think it's part of reasons they were barred in this case...but i am sad that they had to pay 'bribes'... I wish it had happened transparently by them being told of what the right entry procedures are and not bribing along the way. I am happy to know of your experiences, with certain characters, amongst The Gambia immigration officers, at their various points of entry, into that country. I am so sorry that you guys experienced all these nasty things. Unfortunately I experienced the same thing in 2002 when I was returning from Liberia to Nigeria by road. I was stripped of every dime I have such that when I got to Danane, the border town btw Liberia and the Ivorian side, I had to start selling my cloths, shoes to rev up money to make it to Abidjan. I spent one week sleeping on the street, terribly beaten by mosquito. It was a very sad experience. So I can really resonate well with you guys. Yes Cathy I m beginning to see that from the comments made by other Africans about other countries within Africa. I find this so sad. I was born a white woman in Africa, stayed there for 19 years and left when a lot of white people did in the 70s but not because I wanted to, i loved Africa. I thought things would be better when we left but judging by the comments I see on U tube it seems as though things between the black people of Africa has become worse.
