IIRC, the rule is that the solve must begin before the buzzer sounds, but can continue through the buzzer (as long as they don't stop). Had he said MAGIC right before the buzzer started, and continued though the buzzer with WAND (but the correct pronunciation), it would have counted. I believe you even have an example of this on your channel. However, you are correct -- having NEVER reestablished the start of the solve, it would not have mattered anyway... This isn't Clock Game.

In his defence, it is the only four letter word ending in -AND that is pronounced that way. All the others are pronounced..band...hand...land...sand..etc. Even simple English can be quite deceiving.

It was a difficult puzzle. The word WAND has a strange spelling for its pronunciation and should be spelled with an O like pond and fond, words it rhymes with. Ii dare say, you give this puzzle to 10 friends who did not already see it and start counting ten seconds and 9 will get it wrong.
