This is a very good recruiting video...and from the looks of it, there have been numerous changes and improvements made since I went through the program in 1976/1977 as a Warrant Officer Candidate. Things have certainly evolved in 37 years!! Hats-off to all of those guys and gals who make the cut and are able to enjoy a career as an Army Aviator! I enjoyed mine tremendously and wouldn't take anything for it!. Larry Curtis, CW4, USA, (ret)

Steve Pfiester For those who have dreamed of becoming an aviator, the Army can make it a reality. Warrant Officers pilot UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook, OH-58 Kiowa Warrior and AH-64A Apache helicopters-some of the most exciting, technologically advanced aircraft anywhere-on combat, rescue and reconnaissance missions. Soldiers gain these piloting skills in the Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) program. After entering the US Army, you will attend 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training (BCT). After successfully completing BCT, you will attend Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) for six weeks and then go directly to the flight-training program for 52-56 weeks. Once you complete WOCS you will have a six year commitment to the United States Army. For more information on the application process please go to the websites below. Sometimes the links below will not open due to them getting separated. If they do not open copy the entire link and then paste into your browser. usacac.army.mil/cac2/wocc/woprogram.asp#overview www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/index.shtml To qualify to submit a packet for WOFT you must: · Have a high school diploma or equivalent. · Be at least 18 years of age and be able to be selected before turning 33 years of age. · Be a citizen of the United States. · Height requirement: 64-76 inches (above 76” is waivable) · Pass the Selection Instrument for Flight Training (SIFT) test which is an aptitude test, therefore there will not be a study guide for it. · Earn a minimum of 110 General Technical (GT) score on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test (nonwaivable as well). The GT score is one component of the ASVAB results. For more information pertaining to Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, please visit the websites below. You can also find study material at your local library. www.testprepreview.com/asvab_practice.htm, www.march2success.com, www.asvabprogram.com/ · Meet the Active Duty Army's screening height of 64" to 76" and weight standards. · Take a complete physical exam at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and meet entry medical fitness standards as determined by military medical authorities no more than eighteen months prior to the date of application. Must also undergo a Class 1A Flight Physical Examination in addition to the one conducted at the MEPS and have results approved by Flight Surgeons at Fort Rucker, Alabama, prior to the selection board. The Flight Physical must also be less than 18 months old. · The selection board for WOFT looks at the "Total Person Concept". That means that they will look at every facet of your life - to include scholastics, participation in sports, demonstrated leadership roles (like holding an office in a club or activity, etc.), volunteer work, hobbies, interest in aviation (and Army Aviation in particular), etc. · Obtain a minimum of three and no more than six letters of recommendation from people you know in the community. There is no specific format for these letters. However, obtain letters from prominent members of the community you personally know that can attest to your character, leadership potential, and achievements. I.E. Teachers, Employers, Clergy, Political Office Holders, Community Leaders, Retired Officers, Business Owners or Executives, etc. WOFT vision requirements are as follows: If the distant visual acuity is 20/50 or better in either eye, each eye must be correctable to 20/20 with no more than 1 error per line on the Armed Forces Vision Tester (AFVT) or projected Snellen chart at 20 feet. Uncorrected near visual acuity greater than 20/20 in each eye; with no more than 1 error per line on the AFVT or Snellen near visual acuity card. Waivers will be considered for eye surgery after 180 days min and the US Army Aeromedical Center will be the approving authority. (DF)

USArmyRecruiting My son was in the 82nd Airborne XVIII Airborne Corps 546th Transportation Company at Fort Bragg. He served in Helmand Province Afghanistan for a year from 10/10 to 10/11, became a Sarg (Fort Sill); and now, a Warrant Office at Fort Sill. I really want him to make it to Fort Rucker for Warrant Office Class 2, I guess? I just know his goal is to fly helicopters, eventually. Moreover, I even wrote the White House to ask...that's the kind of mom I am (to consider him). He doesn't like me in his business because I'm an old hippie/nurse/poet with communication skills, but "OH Well!" Sorry mom's want to know stuff; even when, you grow up to be an Army Specialist...it's the way of moms. Finally, he's making a career of the Army, and I am proud of him. If you want to do this film shown in reality=you better be athletic all your young lives before The Army. Football, Basketball, Boxing, Snowboarding, Dirt Biking, Running are the things my "kid" did from little to around 25 years old, when he joined. He's 33, now. I wish all Service persons and future Service persons that God may Bless them. This momma sure could not make it in the Army, I'm sorry. Good Luck!

Ben, WOFT is indeed an option that you could enlist directly into. You could speak with a local Recruiter to learn more about the specific qualifications for this enlistment option. It is often possible to complete some college coursework while enlisted. Ultimately, your decision needs to be based upon your goals for your future. There is a "Parents" section at GoArmy.com that may answer some questions that your father has, and you can learn more about WOFT and possibly going to school for ROTC as well. (CEH)

John, this is indeed an option in the Army Reserves. If you're still in your original 8-year MSO, I recommend stopping in to one of your local Army Reserve centers and asking to speak with a Career Counselor. If your MSO has expired, then you'll need to speak with an Army Recruiter (whom you may have to speak with in both cases, anyways). Please have any of your original contracts on hand, including anything that has your ASVAB and line scores listed. These are key to seeing if you qualify. -US Army Reserve Career Counselor

Though from what my research shows you do not need a college degree, a degree (one particularly involved with the mechanics of helicopters like helicopter mechanics) can increase your chances of being accepted into the program or being chosen over another candidate correct? I seek a careered a military helicopter pilot however my high school career has little to show for. Though I pushed myself, the harder classes tended to bring down my gpa. I am wondering if a college degree can show that I can and will be trainable and persistent towards my goals as a person. Is there anything you can recommend or answer? I am a little confused about the schooling requirements *other* than a high school diploma (which I currently have).

My husband began as a 15T in the NG and is just starting flight school. WOCS is 7 weeks, the rest is anywhere from 14-24 months depending on how long you have to wait for spots to open up in a class. Army commissioned officers do NOT fly as much as Warrant Officers. In fact, after their first command (command of a flight company or troop), it's very rare for commissioned officers to fly much at all. Warrant officers fly their entire career, for the most part (except, FI, if they become a TAC officer for a few years as I did, in which case you'll be operating on a waiver for that time, but you will get back in the air).

Your GT on the ASVAB is more important than your ASVAB score. If you really want to get into WOFT, I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you get your Bachelor's degree first. It makes it significantly easier to get accepted into WOFT. If you can't afford to do so and/or want to use Army money to do it, go into a feeder MOS, one that feeds into WOFT, or consider going Army green to gold, and going into flight as a commissioned officer.

That actually happened EXACTLY when I was going through. In fact, I think I was part of the 3rd ever class to go through WOCS and get our bars directly following. I was in class 92-25, so I'm thinking it was as of class 92-23 and on that got their bars directly following WOC-D. And yes, we had it easier in WOCS than you did, and the guys who were in my classes (when I was a TAC) had it easier than I did, and the guys today? Start day and Move Day are like a picnic now compared to when we went through.

READ THIS: If you are a college graduate, civilian pilot, were never in the military, and are thinking about enlisting for the US Army WOFT program: I was in this program. Please read below, so you know what you are getting into: The WOFT program had a 50 percent (one IP officer said 60% ) attrition/washout rate, when I was in it, in the early1980's. This program (WOFT) eliminated a civilian helicopter pilot with 2,000 hours flying time over a wall locker inspection. (myself, I was a Army veteran , with a four year college degree (Penn State University); had flown fixed wing aircraft, and yet, beyond belief, (you can't make this stuff up) was singled out over WOFT's insane-idiotic-lunatic--wall-locker inspections,) The HS graduate TAC officers in charge of WOFT training, take their wall locker inspections very, very, seriously: it's the main standard they will judge you by in the beginning of WOFT.--- These guys (the TACS) are not Harvard material, and I am being very kind, with my choice of words. . How insane were the wall locker inspections? A TAC officer failed, and eliminated one candidate on his final-phase wall locker inspection, because a bug died under his. bed --"unauthorized item." They eliminated an Army crew chief sergeant with several years of service, while I was there, Another candidate's Army wife was sexually harassed in the program while I was there (he reported it, that didn't go over well for his flying career) A lieutenant hung himself because he failed the program two months. before I arrived at Ft. Rucker. Racism, I saw that first hand too. I have more to say, but my words are best saved for "The New Yorker," or "The New York Times." not here in a side bar. So if you are a four year college graduate, ( or civilian pilot) be sure to take bed making 101 and tidy house keeping 102 between your physics and. biochemistry classes; because that is all the high school dip!oma Army TAC officers will judge you on in the beginning of WOFT.. This flight program is the only US military flight program that accepts HS graduates. I am writing this to let you know what you are getting into: if you enlist for WOFT and cannot fly that idiot wall locker. (The Army takes their wall locker inspections to a level not seen since Custer's Last stand. ) I do not know what the attrition/washout rate is today. What I do know is, you will be shattered if you washout, and, you will still owe the Big Green Machine THREE YEARS.. They will in all likelihood make you a clerk, canon cocker, or grunt. "There is a lot wrong with this program," one TAC officer said. . . . "This program has been like this for decades, and it is not changing for anybody," the senior TAC officer told me, "You are no good for the Army!' the Senior TAC Officer told (screamed) me, as he went nuclear on me. ( In my opinion, he was the most unstable person I ever met in my life ) I do not know if the program has been made more intelligent since I was in it in the 1980's I only know I feel compelled to warn young men, and women thinking about the US Army WOFT program. I was an Army veteran, a graduate of Penn State University, was interviewed favorably over the phone for a US Army's Master's degree program (at Baylor University) in Physical therapy by the Pentagon; and had passed the Navy's flight school exam (50% of college graduates fail the written entrance exam). But because of my age, I could not get the Navy's pilot slot, and was offered instead the second seat. (RIO officer etc.). So I choose (enlisted in) the Army's WOFT program over , Naval flight, and the Army's Master's degree program at Baylor University. But at Ft. Rucker (WOFT) I had a TAC officer, who was jealous of my credentials. I was singled out from day one at WOFT. The senior TAC officer told me I was "no good for the Army!" and with his fist clenched, told me he'd like to punch candidates (like me) in the face. Enough. As my combat, Korean war veteran friend said to me "You were singled out, you were done.". I resigned WOFT. (they will get to anybody overtime if they don't back off. Believe me ). There was nothing fair or rational about this program. After I resigned, they made me a private and sent a four year Penn State University graduate to Army clerk school! at Fort Benjamin Harris ( Now that's what I call Army intelligence). While there I was assaulted in the barracks at 3am, while I slept by a soldier I never knew (I woke up right quick and he went flying thru the air). Days later, My wall locker was broken into, and wallet stolen. On another day, four soldiers got out of a car, and confronted me.. This was not the Army I knew anymore; and anyone with half a brain knows college graduates should fly aircraft, and be officers: NOT CLERKS! But the Army's slogan is "high school to flight school.". Army intelligence are two words that don't belong together. I plan on doing a professional film, and write more about this, but I am old, and don't know if I will get it done. (I have several things to check off on my bucket list first) I just feel compelled to warn young college graduate men and women, who have never been in the military, what may happen to you, if you are not liked by these HS-diploma Einstein's. I hope what happened to me, and to so many others, at the US Army's WOFT program never happens to anyone. Everything I wrote here is the truth.

Go Navy, or Air Force flight. As a college graduate, you should not enlist in this program. Read my review on this post. I was a college graduate, veteran, and flew aircraft: I was in this program-- Biggest mistake I ever made. Read my review. There is nothing fair about that program.
@geeo9990
@geeo9990 4 жыл бұрын
@Aaron Rubinstein Hi Aaron, My review is 17 reviews below yours if you sort by newest first. It is lengthy. Look for the orange circle with letter G. It should say "read more" to open up my full review. If the full review does not open up, try refreshing the page. I was an Army enlisted veteran. A graduate of Penn State University with five years of college. I had flown fixed-wing aircraft. I was interviewed after college by the Pentagon for a Master Degree Program in Physical Therapy. And I was well on my way to Naval Flight School-- but because of my age, I could only get the second seat. So I had a chance at flying in the back seat of an F14. Tomcat. But I wanted to be a pilot, so in 1980 I choose the Army's Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) It was the biggest mistake I ever made: At Fort Rucker's Warrant Officer flight Training (WOFT) school, you are judged and eliminated the first six weeks by how well you fly a wall locker. The truth is this was nothing more than an excuse to get rid of candidates they don't like, or in my case, someone, the TAC Officer's were jealous of. They eliminated one candidate in a Final Phase Wall Locker inspection because a bug died under his bed--it was listed as an unauthorized item by the TAC Officers. How would you like to lose your dream to fly over a dead bug. One candidate, they set back three times, till they finally out of sheer awe of his perseverance they passed. But they never let up on him, never stopped harassing him, till he finally quit: He became known as the "Legendary Candidate Russo." The flight school had a 50-60 percent attrition/failure rate for decades. You fly that wall locker or you will never touch a chopper as far as these TAC Officers are concerned--be sure to take "Tidy House Keeping 101," "Bed making 102," and get the "Betty Crocker seal of approval" before you graduate four years of college, because all the hot shot TAC officers You put the time and effort to graduate college. I hope everyone thinking about the Army's WOFT program reads this. I intend to post videos when I get my new camera. What these TAC officers did to thousands of soldiers was horrific. What they did must be told. I recommend the Air Force or the Navy if you are a four year college graduate. (I know if you washout in Navy flight school, they let you out and you can try another services Flight program. There were Navy Flight Washouts in the Army's WOFT program. The Army gladly took them, knowing they were the best of the best.) Listen to me! If you fail WOFT: THIS IS IMPORTANT! You still owe the Army for three years!. They will bust you down to private and make you a clerk (that's what they did to me) or make you a ground pounder, (infantry) or a canon cocker (artillery) If you are unlucky like me, and thousands of good soldiers for decades before me, you will find it really hard to salute high school graduate warrant officers. That don't wash with me. You took the time, and the hard work to graduate college. Don't Don't enlist in a program that judges you by how well you make a bed--They oughta study you TAC Officers. The Army has a long distinguished career of screwing people. Believe me. In the two times I was in, I listened to the senior sergeant's and officer's stories on how careers (and lives!) were ended out of stupidity (there's a lot of that) and vindictiveness towards fellow soldiers. The Army is violent. Vanessa Guillen was a victim of this violence. They eliminated civilian chopper pilots over wall locker inspections. One candidate's wife was in the program and was being sexually harassed--he complained, and from what I could gather that ended his flying career. In 1980, after being singled out, lied about, till I resigned, they sent me with my five years of college, to clerk school as a private (you're stupid Army) While there, I would be assaulted, robbed, and confronted by four soldiers who wanted to pick a fight with me. I'm not kidding. This was no longer the Army I knew from my first tour. I was told at the Army's flight school (WOFT) that "I was no good for the Army!" by the Senior TAC Officer.--CWO Ernest Rickenbacker. That he would like to punch (guys like me) in the face--his fist was clenched--he wasn't kidding. What I am trying to say to you, is this program was a nightmare for 50-60 percent of good soldiers who went through it and didn't make it for reasons that were beyond stupid (other branches of service have much smaller attrition rates) Army The TAC officers at Ft. Rucker's WOFT flight school are not exactly Harvard material. If you are a college graduate, you will know immediately you are not with college graduates in this program--other branches of service flight schools require a four year college degree. If you care about "Black Lives Matter," There was racism in this program. One Officer who was failed by an IP (Instructor pilot) committed suicide. They eliminated career Army sergeants in this program; while 18-year-old pimple-faced kids in the program cruised through it; they had to be taught how to keep a checking account. (I am not kidding.) . The Captain at the time in 1980 (Captain Richard E. Hethcox) said killing a man in combat was like "scoring a touchdown in high school football on Friday night." End quote. Those were his words! That's the type of stability that I found in the Army TAC Officer's at Fort Rucker. I think they are still flying wall lockers there. One other important note; Recruiters lie--it's in their DNA. Maybe you get lucky and find a mutation. My TAC Officer lied to my flight about me to cover himself (CWO John Baron) I recommend the Air Force or Navy Flight. If you washout in their programs, the Army will gladly take you in their WOFT program, but you run the risk of high school TAC officers being jealous and failing you. I don't ever want to see anybody go through what I did. I think they are still flying wall lockers at Fort Rucker's WOFT, and are probably still eliminating college graduates, and civilian pilots in that program over their socks not being rolled properly, or display items missing card being in the wrong place, or a bed corner not being folded right. And I think the Army owes an apology to the Legendary Candidate Russo. (If it's worth anything Russo, I salute you.) The senior TAC (CWO Ernest Rickenbacker) in 1980 said I could be a crew chief. So with five years of college , and having done one tour as an enlisted man, I would be saluting high-school-graduate-pilot-warrant-officers who have no idea what it is like to be enlisted. Really? I don't think so Army. Got that sir. I knew my worth. "Army intelligence" are two words that should never be put together. And I mean never. I hope I have given some insight into what you are getting into. I hope this helps everybody thinking about enlisting in this program, make a more informed decision. I've given it straight up. To the US Army, I will be posting a video with me telling the truth, truth! of what went on in your flight school for decades. You will not like it, and I really don't care what you think or say. Someone has to tell the truth!
