@@AP011Y0N Oh, I could totally envision Kiara as a pirate in an alternate universe. I suppose she has the same sort of clandestine nature. Hmmm. At the time I was studying sample chop-shuffling, and by coincidence there is a bit of a precedent for using that technique in a few types of electro-swing (not that I would call this such). The direct inspirations for this track actually have their roots in speakeasy cabaret, I.E. 1920's speakeasy jazz. Look up Claire Fader and the Vaudevillains for an example -- though I've yet to compose anything quite on that level, I definitely took pages out of their book. Anyway, I felt that splashing in elements of that style into my flavor of Touhou music fit her casino aesthetic quite well, even including a few specific sound design choices like square wave samples that somewhat evoke the noises of a slot machine, along with the coin flip sound effect. In essence this is how I compose all of my music; I try to envision a fitting and nice-sounding concept of a melody, chord progression etc. naturally, and then I analyze other music and see if I can iterate on what they've done myself when expanding on my own music.

I keep coming back to this. The character alone is amazing and something I'd hope to see in Touhou and even see in said Touhou. And the music is just amazing, the start really setting the pace and then the melody at 0:35 and 1:10 is just amazing, wished it was longer since it felt so good with the song. But overall I'm addicted to this music like any good Touhou music.

To be honest I was expecting Unconnected Marketeers to have a boss like her in Stage 4 since it is fitting for stage 4 to have alternate spell cards or bosses and this girl is the type of boss I was expecting.

Funny you should mention that -- when I composed this I didn't really include many elements of breakcore (aside from the very fast tempo and chop-shuffling I suppose) but I AM actually currently working on a new Touhou-style soundtrack with explicit breakcore influences -- lots of heavily processed/chopped amen breaks and stuff. Can't wait for you to hear it!
