To know reality, one must confront the quantum. It is how our world works at the deepest level. What's the quantum? It is bizarre, defying all common sense. Particles in two positions at the same time. Spooky action at a distance. It would sound absurd if it weren't true.

Consider the entropy spectrum, where the celestial is entropy-slow and the quantum is entropy-full/fast. This means that celestial gravity becomes quantum gravity-less, which suggests an object in the quantum realm would not require any force to move and thus appears in multiple locations instantly.

This idea is nonsense. Some crack pots believe quantum particle fields oscillate at place and produce infinite versions of same object, with infinite slight variations producing infinite versions of same reality. Particles pulsate, each time the pulse reaches its peak a new timeline is born, continuing events slightly different in a parallel version of reality. That's just an idea, we would see duplicated or glitches in the matrix by now since those parallel timelines must exist very close, but we didn't.

Dr Zurek was a great choice for an interview on this topic..From a philosophical perspective, we can SEE how magnificent our Universe is..We'll assume it emerged in all this complexity as a construct within the wave function..Why stop there? Is what we can observe all the complexity that is possible? Seems absurd..Probably UNOBSERVBLE complexity which WE can't observe exists within the wavefunction as well..My current bais of MANY years is to be in the Everettian camp, but that's always open to change..Thanks Robert..

Is there some relationship between the "infinite universes" theories and higher order dimensions? For example, to go from 2 dimensions to 3 dimensions you can have an infinite number of 2D planes. The problem with taking many worlds literally is that it logically applies to every particle in existence. Each photon that registers in your retina might have originated in a star light years away. Every microsecond every particle in the universe would be doing an infinitely large number of things and this in relation to every other particle - including ones that started millions of years ago. It seems illogical to take that as reality.

Do you mean many worlds as in planets which would be noticeable, Or many worlds as in many ideas Which would make our world simply a mental projection also. It’s most likely many scales of perspective Which at a tiny quantum level would warp the gradient of the space-time continuum between themselves Causing erratic temporal observations

Is it possible that the explanation of the "measurement problem", "collapse of the wave function", rests only in the notion of "entanglement", and de-coherence? We don't know what realm the wave function belongs to (the "existential" question). We know it's at least a useful mathematical modeling tool ("information theoretic", "possibility"). The big mystery is the ontological nature of the wave function. But rather than "information" giving way to "existence", or multiplication of (classical?) universes to preserve wave function "purity", ... how about the big bang, the current universe, as we have it today, provides the basis collapse upon measurement? It becomes entangled with the wave function of the existing universe. We see what we see, as possibility entangled with what has gone before, what has already "crystalized". This is probably in line with some notion of "quantum darwinism", or Lee Smolin's notion of the arrow of time. The past is classical, and determined. The future is quantum, open for possibilities. The other area to look at is "Constructor theory" (David Deutsch, Chiara Marletto). (I barely understand it.). Given a true physical "randomness", indeterminacy of quantum reality, can one elaborate the physical transformations that are possible, and impossible? Randomness and evolution explores the "solution space". But its done within constraints. The universe emerged the way it did, with a set of "fine tuned" constants, and set of laws. Why did it evolve this way? Is this a unique solution? Or just as biological evolution, does our universe represent just one branch of many other possible "solutions"? And like biology, it stumbled upon a set of solutions that builds upon each other (?) Constructor theory provides a broader framework for not only exploring the micro world of the quantum, but the macro world of the biological. It offers the possibility of a unified framework.
@xspotbox4400
@xspotbox4400 3 жыл бұрын
Constructor hypothesis is a science woo basically, it's epistemological nonsense, but it could become a great tool for philosophy of science. Epistemology deals only with very basics, how do we know something is true what we know is true. Constructor idea approaches the same problem from the other way around, how do we know what is not true what we know can't be true. Like when an apple falls from the tree, we know it will fall at a right angle to Earth's center of inertial mass, but we don't really understand why it doesn't fly in the sky or fall sideways.

Yep, if every particle takes every possible path in some timeline, there are gonna be particle paths that result in us playing a nickelback song and forcing others to hear it. That is terrible and is an act only committed by a monster...but perhaps not all timelines have conscious beings. (I'm risking sounding like a nut here...well a bigger one but let me put that philosopher cap on again) but maybe somehow both MWI AND dualism are true, so then what we are is a soul (or whatever you want to call it) that selects what timeline we experience to a certain degree by having freewill in our actions. So the particles that make us up could be behaving in accordance to the Schrödinger equation with every single possible outcome happening, but we being souls only will see the timelines in which we will to, meaning other timeline versions of yourself could just be inanimate particles with no awareness because you did not chose to experience taking those actions. Now of course I could be completely wrong. Many will probably argue that if materialism is true that the only mechanisms of what forms our "wants" are from the physical world and thus there are not multiple timelines to chose from to our perspectives. In a MWI framework for materialism this means all different timeline versions of yourself must be conscious in the same way and that the individual versions of someone has no choice but to do what they must in each of their respective timelines. But I am not completely sold on materialism, though most will probably take this view when considering MWI. But a dualist MWI framework would basically prove we have free will. It works perfectly for it. At every moment we'd have infinite choices and possible futures. Though the physical states must happen you can chose not to experience them. But there are problems with this too. There is the problem of solipsism. Unless there was a mechanism where all conscious beings are connected so that they always stay in the same branch you'd probably be the only conscious being in your timeline. Then there is also the problem of not being able to experience absurdly unlikely timelines and why is there a limit to what futures we can chose. We for example can't will ourselves to go into timelines where we phased through a wall via an insane amount of quantum tunneling happening at the same time, but the MWI suggests this MUST happen in some branch due to the need for every outcome allowed by the Schrodinger equation needing to happen. So a dualist MWI has to assert that there are certain limits to what timelines we can pick from and that we only can chose futures caused by our brain decisions. But other than that MWI with dualism makes those other physical states not seem as horrifying because then we'd know no one is suffering being forced to listen to nickelback. But again...I'm just some random meme account of bob pompeani so what do I know? There's also probably a timeline where I keep typing after this but no conscious being has to suffer from reading it!

The quantum is so strange because meaning in the macroscopic world becomes meaningless in the microscopic world. There are two types of meaning. Linguistic meaning and sensual meaning: explanatory coherence and physical coherence. Meaning itself is alignment with coherent references, the physical and the abstract. Physicists deal with matter and energy. At the quantum level there is no meaning to the word matter there is only measurement of properties. Charge, spin, momentum, position but where is the electron? It's like finding an elephant's footprints but no elephant. Linguistic meaning deals with the logical axioms of identity, contradiction, and excluded middle or exclusivity. Sensual meaning deals with visual, aural, nasal, lingual and epidermal impressions. Shapes, sounds, smells, tastes and touches and their myriad distinctions. The visual realm is the one most used by scientists because it has the most accessible distinctions. Shape, color, size, motion, etcetera. But what becomes of a sphere at the quantum level. As you shrink a sphere down to a certain level it becomes impossible to resolve that it is a sphere. It becomes immeasurable. It's meaning becomes uncorroborateable.

The many worlds interpretation is just an attempt by materialism to somehow explain the mystical and nonmaterial nature of the quantum world. It violates Occam’s razor, a principle which states when two theories that have the same predictions are being considered, the simpler one is most likely the correct one. In this case, especially in the quantum world, the simpler theory in direct conflict with materialism is idealism. Consciousness causing the collapse of a wave function leads to an idealistic universal view rather than a material one. Just the way that observation itself can cause this change seems to point to the idea that consciousness is fundamental while space and time are mental processes in consciousness. Most scientists subscribe with the materialist theory is due to the fact that an idealistic view consists of a larger universal consciousness (God, Divine Force - not necessarily in any religious context) which causes a direct conflict between science and anything remotely spiritual and religious. Materialism works for the macro world, but collapses and grasps for straws when the quantum world is considered.

When it comes to simple, if you would be presented with Newtonian gravity and Einstein's relativity, which theory would you consider to be true? We can observe the objective world with simple relativistic tools, but not quantum, that's kinda true. But quantum miracles don't emerge on a large scale, so it's more likely miracles and magic are not real. Self awareness or consciousness is a quantum phenomenon, in a sense our brains are made from particles and our mind is a form of information, but that doesn't mean these sensations can influence material reality on their own. We can see functional organs very clearly trough basic mechanical tools, quantum effect in our body produce only common, plain materialistic biology.

@@xspotbox4400 What I meant was that the many worlds interpretation in itself is bogus. I have billions and billions and billions of atoms in my body that are collapsing due to observation every second. The many worlds interpretation says that there is another world created for every collapse of an atom. If you even think about it logically, these worlds can’t even be studied or measured, causing us to circle back to the same question. Idealism plays key in here. We know that observation causes this collapse in super positional states, implying consciousness is a property that can materialistically cause an impact on our physical environment. This was proven by the double slit experiment. I think both Einstein’s relativity theory and newtonian theory have served us very well in terms of expanding our knowledge. Newtonian gravity still works around you in your everyday life, but when quantum particles are considered, I think we need to expand or start to consider some alternatives rather than not giving them any attention. The way magic is portrayed might not be real, but how consciousness can affect matter around it is magical to me.

@@clowntim1 You are probably right about many worlds BS, but wrong with your ideas about self awareness causing anything to physical objects. One proof is double slit experiment, check quantum eraser experiment if you don't believe me, consciousness is a meaningless nonsense for nature. Physicists do try to find out how space-time is affected by particle presence, gravity waves are one of the latest discoveries, but quantum gravity problem will take much more time and efforts. How can you measure gravity effect of a single massive particle, if it can be done in a first place.

@@xspotbox4400 What im essentially saying is that there needs to be consciousness for the collapse of the wave function. I’ll look more into the quantum eraser theory though, but so far it seems as though quantum science is starting to embrace the mysticism around us. I’m no quantum physicist, so I highly urge this one youtuber who can probably make more sense of this for you than I could ever with my words lol. I urge you to look up the youtuber Inspiring Philosphy’s “Quantum Physics debunks materialism” video. It made me question my beliefs too lol.

@@clowntim1 From all the quality scientific community material here on KZbin, you recommend the worst woo, i don't have time for this nonsense, kid. No, it doesn't, consciousness or self awareness has nothing to do with wave function collapse, except information is good only if there's somebody who can understand and make use of it. But it will happen anyway, each time particles emit a pulse of energy, meaning it happens all the time everywhere in the universe regardless. Everything is cause and effect at the same time, not a single particle can exist outside the universe, so cut that crap and start learning real science.

Multiple worlds reflect all possible realities but each and every reality as Donald Hoffman claims is false except the one that the true truth which is very elusive to human conscious mind. Human can see it when the moment of the truth comes - death! Allah mentions in alQuran Surah Al-Hijr, Verse 99: وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ And serve your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death). Because He created human being to serve Him ....to worship Him Alone and to be His vicegerent on earth to care(/do good deeds to) His creations as the test in this temporary life.

The multiverse theory is so ludicrous in it's attempt to deny God. OK, so if there is a multiverse then it's possible to have two universes merged together to 3 to 4 to infinity of universes merged as one, so that there would be two, three, four to infinity of the same person in those universes with an infinity amount of potential future paths. So it would be like infinity upon infinity or infinity squared. IMO, that's total nonsense and so much less likely than just one God. Simplify your theories if you can.
