A collar for a wolf is the way to his salvation. At least in Belarus. Today, all over the territory of the republic, the wolf can be shot without restrictions.
Studying the biology of wolves in protected areas, scientists prove that it is pointless and dangerous to shoot animals in the reserve, first of all, for humans. If you thoughtlessly kill the wolves, the pack disintegrates, and the loners go out to the settlements. In addition, the shooting of the wolf leads to an increase in rabies among wild animals. It is wolves that regulate the number of foxes, which, in turn, are the main threat for humans to contract rabies.
Zoologist from Belarus Dmitry Shamovich in November 2020 caught and marked his 26th and 27th wild wolf with a GPS collar. The result is worthy of the Guinness Book of Records. The first wolf was captured and marked by Dmitry in 2014.
