I’m new to hf just passed my general test a week ago. These two antenna’s are the ones I’m looking at thank you for the help a lot of great information.

Just a follow up I went with the Buddistick pro. Also a antenna analyzer so I could figure out if I was helping or hurting when making changes for low swr. I have made 100’s of contacts yesterday was Lithuania from NC on 50 watts. I have also operated at a few park locations and the rangers really like the idea I’m not using the trees for wires. Thank you for your help.

I've a while back had the BuddiStick vertical, and now I have the Wolf River Coil. For me it just seemed easier to lay the three radials on the ground. Both are good. The WRC seems a bit sturdier.

I can agree with that, but only time will tell if sturdy equates well to durability.

I'm glad it was helpful! I've said it before, and will again - both are great antennas, and I still have, and often use both of them, depending on the situation. I've decided if space is an issue the Buddistick is easier to deal with, but on the whole, still like the ease/adjustability of the WRC. Enjoy which ever one you pick up!

Which antenna has better SWR / Resonance (Low floor) in your opinion - a 80m EFHW or say the Silver Bullet 1000 @ 80m?

This is a good question. I think the answer may be that there are too many variables to answer it in any comprehensive way. The counterpoise on the EFHW will make a big difference, as would the feedpoint height. As far as an actual low SWR, the Silver bullet will be easier to tune than the EFHW for data or CW vs the phone part of the band if it has a high Q. If you have the time and resources, I recommend trying what you have in mind and seeing how it actually works.

You see that the BuddiStick Pro antenna is missing a section of aluminum before the coil. Why is that?

It's on top of the coil to put it within easier reach to make adjustments. Fortunately, it does not affect how it tunes - the length of the antenna is the length of the antenna.

I don't really have the resources and time to shoot a video trying to DX with both antennas to any real effect. I can tell you from experience that they are both very, very similar in performance. If set up in the same locations, the noise floor is the same for both, and I've had about the same luck making contacts on both. To me the biggest difference in which you might want is not performance related because of this similarity. So this video is the other reasons you might choose one over the other. I hope that helps you some.

I think the best antenna of the two is the BuddiStick Pro, because in addition to having almost the same performance, both are more comfortable and practical than the BuddiStick Pro antenna because it has only one radial and you can also use that radial as a directional for wherever you want to do the dx or contact..73 YV5MKI
