Been going up there for 14 years now. You don't need special boats or special color jigs or a wolf river rig. You need a hook minnow and access to the water

What's up with the stuff that looks pipe insulation above the rod handle?

Ha ha. That's what you call rod insurance. That bit of pipe insulation will float the whole rod is someone were to toss it overboard. Saves a person $250.
