It’s called a pop filter and it displaces the air from plosives ( P and B sound that move a lot of air) to stop the microphone from being super boomy and shitty. Same! I played Pokémon as a kid. Started with Red, then Yellow, then Silver and Gold. After that, I stopped playing for whatever reason. For some reason, this video was recommended, and I watched a 1.5 hr video of two guys I’ve never heard of play a game with Pokémon I’ve never seen (besides Gengar). Still enjoyed it. Might get have to catch up on all the new gen games I never played.

I forgot the name of the party game one. And also snap lol I was hesistant at first to get back into pokemon, cause I skipped like 5 gens I think? Lol but I had a switch that I got for Zelda botw, and thought, why not? So I got Shield... Honestly, it was so much fun to get back into pokemon again! 😂🤓🤪❤️😇 If you enjoyed any of the original Gameboy pokemon games, I think you'd like the newer ones too. Well, speaking for shield and sword. Idk about the other ones and Idk if I'll play anymore of those either. Who knows. But I don't regret getting shield. It's soo much fun lol it's even cooler when you find out that there's different game exclusives and this and that. Also, the dlc is worth it if you were wondering... I was literally watching and researching the pros and cons of getting it and haven't regretted it! So much more content to make the game interesting, and more easier to do some things. Also introduces more pokemon and areas to the world. A bunch of stuff besides what I mentioned. I think it's great for passing time and playing with friends or someone else who has it. You can also trade and battle with other people online.

At the risk of over-analysing a potentially non-serious comment, this is exactly one of the things Wolfe does to be great. I think a lot of people approach Pokémon thinking it's a game of how to out-predict your opponent, which it might be at lower levels of play when the opponent is bad and going for obvious moves. But at a high level, your opponent isn't bad and isn't going for obvious moves. You can try and "predict" what they will do, and the may predict your prediction, or you may end up "over-predicting" something. It ends up very messy. The trick is not try and predict what your opponent will do, but to cover for what they could do.

Hearing the backstories, emotions, and experiences during and before this match makes it even more amazing to watch. I remember watching this live and being thrilled that you won (and how crazy everyone went when they realized why you had that now-iconic expression, lmao). I first learned about you when you were a guest in one of Aaron's videos (I think it featured a Charizard Y + Venusaur Pledge team?) back in 2015, and it's amazing to see how far you've come and how much success you're experiencing. I stopped playing VGC in mid-2018 after becoming incredibly frustrated that I hadn't won any events over four different formats. I got back into Pokemon when Sword and Shield came out, and started playing VGC again last month. I remember I was on Twitch and had your channel recommended to me in the sidebar. I didn't know that you streamed, so I immediately followed. A couple weeks later, I tuned into one of your lesson/lecture streams about "getting started in VGC," and your stream was the push that got me playing again. Pokemon was a huge part of my childhood, and being able to play it to this day and meet new people who share the same passion for it is an amazing experience for me. I know I'm not really anybody, but thanks for all the wholesome and honest content over the years. Your dedication to the game and its community really shows.

ya know, reading Jonathan's report, I realized how impactful a lot of the decisions made in this game were. Jonathan mentions several points where he talks about missing the obvious decisions, such as protecting in front of swords dance, when using eruption would have won him the second game, or how if he had just spent an hour to double check his spreads and fix his gengar's evs, he'd have a 25% chance to survive origin pulse in game two, meaning he'd have the ability to maintain weather control. It really is absolutely insane how much work is put in to be on that stage, and how deserved it truly is. Congrats Wolfe, I can without a doubt say that you've proven yourself.

@Booba I think Jonathan meant double-checking his spread before the tournament. You’re right that you can’t change anything about your team once you lock it in, and nobody cheats/hacks to do so; it’s impossible. But Origin Pulse is a really common move he could have calc’d and optimized his spread for, he only realized that in hindsight.

It's called a pop filter. Basically it filters out any strong "p" "b" and "t" sounds that normally sound really loud and obnoxious in recording. Basically you'll just sound really good lol

@@bepe4279 that is its true purpose in audio production. It originally was used with ribbon microphones to 'filter' out anything from entering the mechanism. The way to remove hard 'p' sounds, is to use correct mic technique. Now pop filters are used because they slightly remove those sounds, which makes it easier for amateurs.

Honestly this was the first VGC match I ever watched, and I don't think I'd be so into the scene if it wasn't for this match. Amazing video, the play by play commentary was really interesting. I love how a large part of the matchup between teams with Pokémon like Mega Gengar, Mega Rayquaza and the primals was the dynamic of Raichu vs. Manectric! The resulting Rayquaza/Kyogre lead was really cool.

Was it that his misplay was read as a really risky read, and his camera glare was taken as disrespectful?

What I remember was that the first offense was just in general what Wolfe said, the meta was trash so everyone already had disdain for the two finalist. The second was the timer situation, a lot of people were accusing Wolfe of being a time staller throughout the competition even though his opponent did the same and many do it still. There was many false accusations saying he only wins through time stalling and blah blah. And then the last was the beef between the two opponents and I know a lot of the other sides fanboys ended up painting Wolfe as an egotistical snobbish person. Now that I know Wolfe, I know he doesn’t try to timestall on purpose it’s just he’s constantly overthinking things and playing mind chess over every little situation haha I love Wolfe now and appreciate him and I just wished I didn’t listen to the idiots back then because I ended up just ignoring his adventure through the years because of some dumb opinions

Looked up all the main comments and never found anyone answering him, but that disk with the black fabric over his microphone is called a "pop filter", it's to prevent those hard consonant sounds that P, B, and T tend to make when speaking words like "pop" from being not heard as much over recordings.
