Edlinger looked like a gecko on that wall. He gave the impression he could never fall. Very impressive !

Edlinger was the beast on sight climber in those days, maybe better than Moffat and Nadin. Competition and on sight climbing never were Gullich's better skills

+Pep Puig Agreed. I guess, Wolfgang was just the best project climber at the time or ever - very systematic and I think he was the first to realize that specific muscle training at the hangboard (mono stuff and such) was the way to push the envelope (for action directe in the mono case) and thereby paved the way for generations of climbers, breaking into new territories, to come. People just didn't think of working on projects that way afaik until Wolfgang "invented" it. A true genius.

indeed he was. Ten years before anybody else he climbed 8b+, 8c and 9a.

Güllich simply never cared for indoor climbing. He didnt train for it and just wasnt invested. Countless episodes about that. Thats why he gladly changed climbing to buildung the routes for the world cup.

I think the move was super reachy and off-balance (judging by the size of the upper left pixel ;) ). Edlinger's height, flexibility and "verdonesque" slab experience would have been a clear advantage there. Nice to see some slabs in a climbing competition, it reminds me how homogenous IFSC route settings (but still usually awesome! :) ) tends to become these days.

Interesting. Too bad there aren't closeups to see what stumped Wolfgang. I'm really surprised that he couldn't figure out the sequence.
