He is a man of great humour. In the first part of the video he tells the audience about how to cheat housewifes which want him to sing...hide the key and things like that.Wonderful voice.Great Wagnerian Tenor

He marks the beats too strongly, which I suppose you have to do to keep your place in those long Wagnerian parts. But it deprives this beautiful song of legato tenderness. Schlusnus reigns in this repertoire.

The phrase beginning at 2:34, but especially at 2:42!, is a masterclass in how to sing, how to interpret a piece and how Strauss should be sung and realized. Only Windgassen and Lotte Lehmann have succeeded in doing just this. I love this video and return to it whenever my ears have wearied of the terrible modern singing that is inescapable nowadays.
